Multiple lot trades?

Sat Aug 18, 2007 2:45 am

Today's Editorial had a question about multiple lot trades. I don't know what these are, and I wonder if someone would explain? I frequently see trades with a number of items included- could this be what is meant? but then- these are commonplace.

I was just wondering, because in my mind this seems a bit confuzzling, how people get frozen for "scamming" by doing double trades. Really, isn't the "scammer" just taking advantage of a clear profit gain, from someone who SHOULD know better? Shouldn't the person with the Neopoints bid only on the item, as to avoid said scam, else it's just their fault really? ~criminal
Interesting username for your point of view! ;) While we generally don't reimburse people for being scammed, that doesn't mean it's okay to scam because the victim "should know better." ...

So, while we obviously don't endorse people doing multiple lot trades, we aren't going to pretend it doesn't happen...

I have no clue... Wish they had explained that better...

I think that would be like me wanting to borrow someone's Meowclops and having 2 mil in collateral...the person wants to lend through trades but the limit on pushing neopoints through trades is 800k. So they put the meowclops up and a bottle of sand and tell me to put 800k on both. I do and they cancel the trade on the meowclops and take my 800k for the bottle of sand. There are some variations of the scam but that is the basic idea.

Thanks for explaining Varii. I was also wondering what they were refering too. I'm glad that TNT do look into agreements made by neomail, because that makes scamming much harder.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was surprised that it wasn't described much at all in the editorial, and didn't know what they were talking about (despite being on the site 7 years). Glad to see that they are indeed freezing for it.

Also...anyone else notice that the first question came from the neoboards? That kinda cheers me up; it means that someone is keeping an eye on the boards at least some of the time.

It was an interesting answer, and I wish they'd explained more about it in the Editorial.
Anyway, the question was kind of pointless, as scamming is taking advantage of someone who doesn't know any better.

Thank you for the explanation.

I wonder if the reason that they didn't describe it in the Editorial was to keep from putting bad ideas in people's heads? But I'd think, could be wrong though, that to tell what it is would alert people to what to watch out for.

Arka, that's the reason I was thinking of - if they outlined exactly what the scam was, people might get ideas.

I'm surprised, I knew what the whole concept was already, and thought it was common knowledge.

Another solution to this would be to raise the 800k limit, haha.

I never understood the purpose of that limit. It makes selling the expensive things riddiculous. Having to add someone to your neofriends list just so you can make a private auction is kinda... meh. It's just not what the neofriends option should be for. (Well, you could always send someone the neopoints and pray they will send you the item in return... but you'd have to be either very dumb or very naive to do this when the other person is a total stranger.)
