Ask Listen Learn Matching Madness

Wed May 21, 2008 8:10 am

It's the old "match X to Y" game, but this one's about the dangers of alcohol and underage drinking. They throw in a footie factoid and there's a football cursor to make it "more interesting" (but is rather out of place).

Nice to see something like this around, I think it's rather responsible. What do you guys think?

I just took a peek at it. I have to agree, I think it's a different spin on teaching about the topic. If a few of those facts stick in a kids head while they are scoring some easy NPs, great!

It's certainly a different kind of sponsor game then we are used to on Neopets. Thumbs up! It's not asking you to buy something to go watch some movie like all the others. I think this is a nice little addition to the games room.

I definitely approve. I'm 23 and I had to think through some of those. Very good awareness. Bravo TNT.

Yeah, I'm glad to see an educational sponser game instead of a "buy this!" sponser game. I do feel a little silly playing it though...lol

As much as i approve of sponsor games not involving food that will probably kill you I definitely have some complaints about the content of this one (and that's even aside from the irritating and totally unrelated sports references)

The facts are presented in a way that's biased, and honestly seems condecending. They're presenting the results of excessive binge drinking, sometimes over the course of a long period (as with liver damage) as being the consequences of any consumption of alcohol. And I think that individuals in the age range targeted (11-13) are smart enough to see through that and then be more distrustful of the information imparted.
The content is apparently aimed at middle-schoolers
On the other hand I'm above the legal drinking age myself and may have a skewed view of what someone 11-13 is already aware of.

What particularly bothered me (as someone who has known stroke victims) is that they imply that the only way you can have a stroke is to have abused alcohol.

I believe the wording is:
This serious condition happens when alcohol blocks the blood flow to your brain.

This reminds me of all the anti-smoking games Neo had a few years ago. I can think of at least 2 off the top of my head...

The random factoids seem kind of odd, too. The "Factoids" seem kind of biased in a way, as well.
