Does neopets really delete inactive accounts?

Mon May 26, 2008 10:20 pm

I read somewhere on the internet that neopets deletes account after two years of inactivity. I have a couple of questions.

First of all, is just logging into your account sometime prevent it from being deleted?

Also.. I have two accounts that I obviously put the wrong birthday on. They're side accounts but they have some pets on them that I really like. Even though I haven't used neopets in a long time I'd be really irritated if they deleted those accounts. :\ I'm trying to find the birthday by checking them everyday in my neofriends list from my main account. I already know the year, but the day itself is going to take some time.

Anyway... if they do delete inactive accounts... That is a terrible policy.

Yep, they do. I lost two of my old sides that way. :(

I'm fairly sure that a login or two is enough to avoid it, though.

That's really annoying.

Hopefully I can figure out what the birthday is before they delete my shadow ixi and white aisha. :\

I will say, I created an account in 2003 and haven't visited it since, but it is still around. So you might have more time then you believe to get the birthday business sorted out.

I don't think they do it every two years, but it's probably closer to when they do delete old accounts, they go for ones with at least two years of inactivity. Just guessing based on the fact that I've got at least one account that I haven't logged into for well over two years that hasn't been removed, however I did lose my very first account that way.

I think they only recently decided to implement an official system of deleting older accounts. Perhaps they just started to count the time from that moment on, instead of backtracking every account to see when it was last used? Would save a lot of work

Anyways, I think it's brilliant to finally have something against old inactive accounts. A lot of people create accounts and pets that never get used again. It's a waste of space and more importantly of pet names, coming up with a nice pet name becomes increasingly harder these days.
Logging in once every two years is a really small price to pay to keep your account. Honestly, if you don't access it once in that long period of time, you'll probably never use it anyway. And if you lost your password for it, you won't be able to use that account either, so why insist on keeping it in the first place?
