I can't begin to understand what you are asking, but it all comes down to the fact that you still need to rely on others doing the work and letting you know.

It wouldn't be very efficient. First of all, it relies on someone on PPT to see the Alert, secondly it relies on that person posting about it (or emailing you? - I am unsure of that part).

Huh? That would be like saying the "Termy is up!" threads are "others doing the work and letting you know". If I noticed that Tarla is around, I would notify others too. Also, all they'd need to do is post when Tarla is out (pretty much like they already do now), but in a seperate thread, leaving this one for discussion of Tarla.

In essence, it allows one to be notified only of the "Tarla is out" posts without the "But what item was it?" stuff.

Funny, you should mention Turmy. I posted when he was a wake sometime last week. I actually had people posting on the thread that I should have put in the link to Turmy to save them time. No, thankyou but a complaint. That is what happens when people expect things all the time.

My point is that you would like a thread dedicated only to an Alert, so you don't have to worry about watching for the Alert yourself. Once other's see that other's will do the work, eventually no-one is going to do it.

I have seen it happen in the Help Forum with the MP hunt. No-one was searching in the end, only waiting for the answer. :)

Ah, but the difference here is that watching for the yellow flashing blub and watching out for the e-mail alert involves the same amount of work; it just allows you to pick which type of alert you'd rather be watching for. (As an aside, I really didn't expect this much opposition - it really doesn't do that much work for others!)

Only for you - someone still has to see the Alert go off, come in to the PPT thread and post it. :)

The Alert is automatic - no-one has to do anything but watch for it.

The e-mail alert means someone else is posting on the board, so you can get to Tarla without having to watch the Alert button yourself. That is the difference.

As for "picking" the alert. Once again, this thread is for everyone to participate in not just for those who don't wont to watch for the Alert button to go off.

And then there's those of us who CAN'T watch for the alert because it doesn't show up, and when it does decide to make a once in awhile appearance, it's to tell us she's already left the building...

But I do agree that it is mean to expect someone to watch all the time, or even part of it for everyone else. I just agreed with the idea until whoever created the blasted thing fixed it for Firefox because I have only seen it flash once since installing it, and that was to tell me I found it!

I have 20 referrals for Premium left if anyone is interested!

Missed it. Again. Only because I was watching anime, and Firefox doesn't bother to blink until after I open it and the toolbar loads.

I think it would be a waste of time someone creating a new board everytime tarla was "in the building" (this is what you guys were discussing no? only had a skim read) because the thing is with turmy he is around for an hour, tarlas only around for a few minutes. It would be helpful for people like me who have to keep an IE browser open and check randomly because i dont use IE or firefox (im an avant fan from way back) but i think it would be a waste of a new board.

i dunno.. jmo

Gondra. Perfect reasoning. You get a gold star!

Turmy = 1 hour window.
Tarla = 2 minute window? If you are relying on a PPT post to alert you, you aren't going to get it. Pretty much you're on your own.

Splitting comin up!
