You're right, it's not paranoid for what you just said. What is paranoia is paranoia, but there are plenty of people (obviously excluding you) who are still deleting it for paranoid reasons. I don't think they were calling you paranoid - you just disagree with what they were doing, rather than getting freaked out by it. So I don't think they were saying anything about you.

In my personal opinion, I don't care. If they track you, likely it's because perhaps they have had a heads-up on you being a hacker or something. If you have the toolbar, they can check. Anyone who logs into 23 different accounts every day probably deserves to be tracked and iced anyway.

In fact, I'd absolutely love it if they could use it to get rid of those annoying people who cheat at Kacheekers*. I doubt they'd help in the least, but if they did I'd be happy. After all, it's not like I check my bank details on the net.
(On the other hand, if you do do that sort of thing online I probably wouldn't blame you in the least for being a little paranoid and deleting the toolbar.)

* Cheating at Kacheekers. Some people move once just before 48 hours, then again, and then move just before the multiplayer comps end to get themselves free and easy wins against good opponents. I absolutely hate them.

I use FF for everything, so I'm not sure.

I just wanted to update the thread with this:

What happens to your computer when you download the Tarla Toolbar? I read on another website that it tracks your internet history so advertisers will know what type of ads appeal to you so you're more compelled to click, & someone else said its got spyware attached, & that's the reason you're promoting it so much with free items. I'd like to download the program & get expensive things, but I just want to know what really happens before I do so :P If you do publish this, please leave out my name. Thanks!
We asked the head honcho of the toolbar himself, and he explained there is absolutely no spyware in the toolbar, as clearly stated when you sign up. :) Nothing is tracked by the toolbar, and no individual data is stored. The toolbar does not have any hidden programs or the like that would harm your computer or track personal information.

I was just about to mention that.

Theres the proof. The tool bar does NOT track you. The editoral even says, theres nothing dealing with it tracking you, in the terms and conditions.

Let's just go over what it sends again.
  • What account you are logged into/have logged into / The session data TNT uses to keep people logged in (essentially the same cookie) - duh, since the toolbar "Alerts you when a new neomail from another user is waiting for you" it needs to be able to authentificate itself as you.
  • A unique ID for your toolbar - Technically, this makes for a rather good security token that can't be stolen [easily]. As far as I understand your concern here is that Neopets may connect the account logins you do together even if you clear your cookies in between (or that it's possible to distinguish users logging in behind NAT). Even if they do attempt to correlate toolbarID and usernames, there's no real impact on you unless you're using multiple accounts to cheat.
  • What browser you are using / Version of your toolbar - it's hardly personal data, and the web browser you use already identifies itself to everything you visit on the internet (likewise, I wouldn't call sending version of the toolbar to neopets a violation of privacy). The combination can be used to seemlessly update the toolbar when needed, and isn't really much of a privacy issue.

Essentially, it boils down to Neopets knowing that you're online when you have a browser window open. They don't know what you're browsing, typing or doing at your PC, so there's little cause to shout WOLF!

Not in every country they're not. We're not all living in a Big Brother society, thank God.
