One of the junk items sitting in my inventory got turned into a pile of sludge. Upon looking at the Pile of Sludge, I've realised that it doesn't actually look like a pile of sludge. It looks hard, it sticks up in the air and is spiky like a little mountain! It also has little sharp bits sticking off it.

Why? This thread is to discuss the item known as the Pile of Sludge, the item that doesn't look like a pile of sludge, but is actually supposed to be a pile of sludge.

This has bewildered me for many years now and I keep wondering why it doesn't look like what it's supposed to be! The only possible solution I could think of is that it's sludge that has come from another planet and therefore, would look different to what normal Neopian sludge would look like.

According to Dictionary.com:

sludge –noun
1. mud, mire, or ooze; slush.
2. a deposit of ooze at the bottom of a body of water.
3. any of various more or less mudlike deposits or mixtures.
4. the sediment in a steam boiler or water tank.
5. broken ice, as on the sea.
6. a mixture of some finely powdered substance and water.

However, Princeton University defines as such:

sludge -noun
1. the precipitate produced by sewage treatment
2. any thick messy substance

So thus it appears, Sludge can indeed take many shapes and forms.
And a Sludge by any other name .. wait nevermind, lol. Maybe it's a British thing.

EDIT: I personally always wondered why a Pile of Sludge is black (and "pointy" as you say) and a Bucket of Sludge is white (and "silty"), though. Maybe it is industrial waste from Sophie's Lab.

Is this the right thread to also wonder why we have toilets in Neopia but no toilet paper?

I always thought of the Pile of Sludge as being dry, dusty ash, that they pretended was sludge. Hence the pointiness.
However, I think TNT should issue a statement to clear it up. Or else!

The first time I noticed that was last year, and it does indeed look like a pile of ash. Neopets has a lot of oddball items like that.
