Besides omelettes and jelly, is there any regular source of free food? I'm looking for something to replace the 7-eleven rice cakes.

You can change your country in user preferences. I have it set on Azerbaijan to get rid of the Google thing.

Or, you could spend 140 NP per pet and put them into the Cockroach towers for 28 days at a time.

or, if you were really ambitious, you could spend 1/3 of that and only put them in there for a day at a time, every 3 days.

but i'm not that ambitious. i just want them fed so they don't get blue or gray.... i don't actually want to put any work into it
