Neopets is always trying to get people to change their passwords for security reasons, right? Therefore, if they introduced an avatar you got by changing your password, many people would change their password at least once. It could have a picture of a police Chia with the word 'secure' underneath!

Wow! That's pretty nifty. Did you send that idea in? You should

that would be awesome, especially if you had to change yr pass every month or the av would disappear from yr list...
but they'd have to say how to get the av when they released it otherwise a ton of newbies would be fooled into thinking that if you changed yr pass to "secure" you'd get the av, heh

good idea, but knowing people on the neoboards, they would run over there when they figured it out and declare "I got this awesome new av by changing my password to 'ilovemypet'" Of course it wouldn't have the same exact lingo, I just can't stand chat speak so I refuse to type in it. But you get the point. Granted it wouldn't be neopet's fault, but still they would have a hacking epidemic.
I can even see hackers going on and spreading rumors about how it only works if you change the password to some specific phrase so then they can get in to accounts as people changed their password to that specific word/phrase

I imagine anyone that will fall for that has fallen victem to some similar scam already, or will.

I've gotta agree, there would be too many scamming opportunities if they made an av like that. Good concept though, but it needs tweaking. Maybe if they had to change their pass to a randomly generated number or something?
Fri Aug 06, 2004 2:32 am
thats liek such a good idea!
Fri Aug 06, 2004 2:34 am
I like the idea... I'm trying to think of how to get around scammers...
Well, they don't have to announce it, for one... *thinks some more*
Fri Aug 06, 2004 2:35 am
it would work if neo just gave a disclaimer a little somthing like this "Only Change your Password to something only you would know, never change you password to someone elses suggestion, never change you email to one other than your's" and maybe some "neo...will never ask....your password, or for you to change it" type thing

Pardon my confusion, but how is that
like a good idea? It may
be a good idea, but how can it be
like one?
Or were you being sarcastic, as in "That's
similar to a good idea . . . except that it's bad"?
_mash_ -- Unfortunately, creating/releasing the avatar but not announcing it would make it more prone to scamming, I suspect.

oh god if that was to happen more newbies would be hacked in one day rthan in all of neopets history
