This may have been mentioned before-sorry

but has anyone else noticed the error in Anshu's story. He is arguing with Hoban because he wants to visit Kwark Island, and our interviewer states ' well now we're on Kwark Island'

I thought we were on Mystery Island? COnfused

I came to the conclusion that error is TNT saying we're bad interviewers :P

As far as I can tell, Linae and Anshu backup each other's story. How could Linae now about the leak unless she was told to help fix it.

That only leaves Bonju and Kentari. Kentari was seen a few times on deck and in the same area so I don't think he pushed Hoban.

It was a statement by the interviewer to the re-telling of the story.

At that point in the story, the Cyodrake's Gaze was at Krawk Island.

Daze, she said she went but didn't say if she was ordered to. Do you think there was foul play in the meantime? If so, when?

Thu Aug 31, 2006 7:10 am

you know they are trying to make it look like this spat of guessing will be the end of it...but i don't think so they have spent to much time in it to just stop it here (ie.- the comics, the (still UNSOLVED :x ) avatar) its just to abrupt

and u know only being able to pick "yes" for if we like his hat could just be a laugh they want to have at us OR perhaps it is a clue...(yes i have gone insane    :roflol: )

Something about .. anger and thoughts swirl .. and need to express .. stupidest plot ever .. after I just thought it amusing and very clever.

Multiple choice tests based on faulty psychology is what I hate most! :x

We know that Hoban was heard arguing with someone at 6.00. So Hoban was onboard until then.

I am not too sure of the timeline, the more I try and work it out the more confused I get. ~:>

Linae first hears Anshu and Hoban arguing then when the "All hands" call goes out Linae says she saw Anshu heading below proably to set up supplies (she doesn't know about the leak). Later she says she helped Anshu with the leak, so she must have been told about it.

My timeline goes to Chef at 5, is why the only answer must be 6, in my opinion. Here are my VERY rough notes thus far, since I am about to sleep.

X (Dinner?)
XX (Storm?)

3 (Chef sees Hoban sulking by starboard railing, while cleaning up broken crates)

4 (Chef sees Hoban griping at the port railing)

5 (Chef speaks to Hoban when he is calm)

6 (Hoban must have fallen overboard)

Linae claims to hear Anshu and Hoban arguing after dinner.
The Captain's intention is clearly to head to Mystery Island.
Anshu wants very much to land at Krawk Island for supplies.

(Anshu argued with Hoban just before the storm, Anshu headed below deck at the beginning of the storm, an hour later heard yelling on the aftdeck but could not see who it was, heard Hoban arguing with someone else again at 5).

EDIT: My second suspicion is that Chef, the last person to see Hoban at 5 pushed him over then? But there seems no motive. However the very last frame of the last comic, according to even Anshu's story has Chef looking very smug.

I just went through the comics and wrote some stuff down.

First, in Kentari's story, he says that while making rounds after dinner, he saw Chef Bonju leave the weapons storeroom. He didnt have any time to investigate what Bonju was doing, because just as Bonju left, the "All hands on deck!" message was announced. But in Bonju's story, he claims to have been washing dishes just before "All hands on deck." It doesnt make sense that he would go grab a carving knife in the middle of washing dishes, then rush back to do the silverware (which seems the only logical conclusion if both Bonju and Kentari's stories are accurate.)

Then, in Anshu's story, he says that he heard an argument up on deck while he was repairing a leak, but Linae was nowhere to be seen. Didnt she say she helped him with that leak? It seems strange that Anshu would completely neglect to mention her being there at all. Linae also says that she helped with the leak near the end of the storm, but Anshu had been ordered there at the start of the storm. He only stayed down there for an hour as well, since he says he went on deck an hour later to see who was arguing.

Similarly unusual is that in the Captain's story, Anshu remains on deck and doesnt rush downstairs as soon as it hits, contrary to both Linae and Anshu's own stories that he ran below quickly to tend to whatever.

I also noticed Chef Bonju's placement was different in two of the stories. In the Captain's account, Bonju is rushing on deck from the portside doorway. In his own story, he emerges on deck from the starboard doorway.

Regarding what Orrin saw and heard, I'd have to make the guess that Hoban fell off the ship near to where the storeroom is located, but I dont know where the storeroom is. Its unlikely that Orrin couldve seen or heard anything on the outside of the ship in a raging storm unless it was close to where he was. The picture of the storeroom in the comic shows a porthole to Orrin's right, but there could be multiple portholes in that storeroom if it's exposed to various lengths of the hull. (Even though Orrin says the porthole, suggesting there was only one available, I dont know if such language usage should be taken into account.)

If Ive messed anything up, or misinterpreted something, let me know. Im really really confused at the moment. There has to be some kind of sense to make out of what's going on. o_o The text makes it seem as though its really obvious that theres a definite answer. Then it hits you. Not like a ton of bricks, because you'd be dead, but it's still a pretty big epiphany... you know what happened! Even better, you know where to find Hoban.

What I hate about this plot..

Too many inconsistencies (I hope I spelled that right), pictures (you may spot alot), lines (such as Captain line "Where is Hoban" compare with Kentari's)

And other things... how come the captain didn't notice that anshu and hoban was arguing while he was on the deck >_< (before he called for the storm)

And odd things about Bonju

He stole the knife to carve something with... what would you carve in the middle of the night? And not to mention that he's washing the dishes until the crews were called.

Timelines : (in AM)

1 : Presumably when the storm began
Captain & first mate was on deck calling the crew, alarming the storm call
Anshu was on deck quarelling with Hoban
Linae was on deck hiding behind the crates
Bonju was going to wash the silverware
Kentari was going to recheck the weapons
*****Pictures*****
Captain based : Kentari went to the deck, Anshu and Linae were already there, Bonju followed from behind, no Hoban
And captain always held the wheel, unlike in linae/anshu's stories.
Kentari : Kentari went to the deck, Anshu and Linae were already there, no Hoban
Bonju : Bonju went to the deck after Kentari, different picture compared with Captain/Kentari story, no Hoban
Linae : Anshu went back to below, and Hoban went to the wheel
Anshu : no story from him... until he received the task to fix the leak, presumably helping with the ropes like the pictures suggested from others stories.

2. Steering/wheel deck? -
Presumably hoban was having the quarrel with linae (according to linae she was with hoban twice) (thus an hour later, kentari said that Hoban complained about Linae to him)

3 : Starboard -
Presumably Hoban helping kentari (said by Kentari) , and this is the last time we heard about kentari.
Hoban was seen by bonju who was cleaning the crates (but he didn't mention kentari)
Anshu was asked to repair the leak at this time by the Captain (yet he didn't mention what he was doing before that).

4 : Port Railing -
According to Bonju, Hoban was still griping
According to Anshu (who was fixing the leak), Hoban was yelling at this time (bonju didn't mention any yelling)
Presumably Hoban was having another quarrel with Linae (the 2nd one) or this could happen at 5.

*Linae could be helping Anshu at 4 or at 5, but Anshu never mentioned he was being helped.
*What was the chef really doing, he went there and went here and there and ... was he trying to skip his work since he never mentioned what he was really doing :P ?

5 : Aftdeck
Anshu saw Hoban was having another argument (he saw but he never said whom hoban was having the argument with, what a helpful story)
Bonju said that Hoban was already calmed down and approached him.

6 : nothing told at 6, and what is "foremast" or "helm" and how people choose their grids (based on what)?

*Regarding motivation...
Kentari : I didn't see any motivation
Bonju : He could have the same motivation like Anshu, since he cook and need "rare" ingridients anyway, and who hold his missing knife, and what's the purpose having a new "weapon" in that time
Linae : She didn't want bad luck...
Anshu : He desperately wanted to stop at Krawk island

Well, unless the story became "Kindaichi"-ish, where the motivation of the culprit was revealed after the case (due to revenge of something that not even mentioned before the culprit revelation)...

Overall we still lack of clues, how many people lies, do they tell half lies, or full lies, and what about the inconsistencies, are they human error, red herring or the real clue to the plot... and the plot itself has "holes", missing part, skipped story (uncomplete story), I mean how helpful the Captain story... etc.

And since my language is not English, nor I have knowledge about ships, could anyone give guides what those places mean?
Thanks in advance :)

The ship parts are confusing me too. :(

Thu Aug 31, 2006 8:53 am

I have a feeling that it doesn't matter what we vote for.
Only the time and place will be of significance.

The next thing that will happen is that the ship sails off to the destination we guessed (or the correct one if we guessed wrong) and it shows up that it was all an accident and that no one actually pushed off Hoban.
That's why they made this plot so complex.
It's just so that we'll pull off all our hair just to hear from Hoban that he slipped or tripped over some cargo :roflol:

Not sure if anyone's said this already, but I can easily see TNT doing something like this as a red herring, and the next part of the plot being the Captain saying "Well! Looks like your guess was completely wrong...".

The aftdeck is the deck at the back of the ship, and also where the steering wheel is on the Cyodrake's Gaze. The steering wheel can be called the helm too. The stern is also the back of a ship. (The bow is the front of the ship, where the Captain is standing when we question everyone.)

If you were on a ship facing the bow, the right side of the ship would be called 'starboard' and the left side 'port.'

Mast would refer to a pole that supports rigging and sails, and 'fore' refers to something at the front of a ship. So foremast is probably a pole holding sails/rigging near the front of the ship :)

(I double checked my definitions on wikipedia, but Im still no sailor. If anyone knows better than me, post.)
