I agree because then those of us not even on PPT can know when she comes.

I'd appreciate something like that, for sure!

Eh. Got it. I don't have a neohome, so this was kinda a pointless prize for me. I'd rather have gotten the plushie form last time.

Does this count as a split that a moderator would have to do, or can just anyone make it?

Well... this is pretty much the notification thread. In any case, I doubt it would make a difference even if we allowed a seperate thread, since it would just have the same effect if you just posted here. By the time you float your way over here you should've been able to spot it in the toolbar.

Not to mention people will be posting the wrong thing in the wrong thread. So we'll keep it in this one.

Well, this thread has discussion posts and splits more often, so it's kinda a waste of time to keep checking when Tarla isn't around, and we have to remember to keep up with the splits....

I don't think that would be a problem since the mods lock previous threads when they start a new split and the new split would be on top... personaly I dont see a reason for a seperate thread.... As long as the mods who spilit the thread keep a first post with the link to Tarla in it whats the differance? usualy the only thing said is 'hey i got the prize!' or 'this is todays prize' wich is what i like to read :)

I'm not sure you understand what I mean - I was looking for some way that'd just immediately notify you when Tarla's around other than the Alert button which doesn't work if you're, say, in the middle of doing homework.

Any notification still requires you to be on the computer and to be able to see the notification.

If you are at the computer, a flashing yellow icon is all you need. If you are away from the computer, how is an email going to help you?

Or even if you are at the computer, you see an email come in, by the time you read it, the Tarla event could be over.

The same problem with a new thread - you would need to keep refreshing the thread to see if anyone has posted. By the time you done this, the event could be over.

If I see a new post, I immediately check the Alert. If it is false alarm then nothing is lost. If it is an alert - the icon is flashing anyway. :)

exactly.

Tarla is on and off so quick that you really couldnt do it any other way besides the alert button or checking this thread (if you happen to be on ppt that is) Personaly I like the 'yay got it' feeling and ya 'aww missed it' if it was made to easy it wouldnt be fun! just as if everyone got the items they would be next to worthless....

You're missing one possibility: If I'm not using a browser but I am at the computer, Google talk has a function where new mail pops up in the systray (I think instantly) with the thread's subject and etc. If I see it is a thread notification from the proposed notification thread I can just check the alert button immediately, then come here and reset the status (just once each time Tarla appears) so that I can get the next email.

By the way, you do need to come back to this thread or the forum software will refuse to send another e-mail for the next post. This is very annoying, because with all these discussion posts also embedded, I have to check the thread every time such that more notifications can come. This also annoyingly clears all the new post flags, so I have to either check the whole forum for new posts in interesting threads or risk missing something because I later didn't notice new posts in a certain thread.

I'm a bit of a casual player who usually checks PPT only once or twice in the course of a day, so I hope this makes sense if you consider that type of player.

There's another use: for those who have a browser with the toolbar but it slows their browser down such that they'd rather turn it off when they're not using it. Those people would still be able to benefit from having the toolbar without the negative impact to their normal (i.e. non-Neopets) browsing.

I'm sure there are other situations for which this would be useful too; perhaps also see how MagicKira or Sylence expected to use it?

I can't begin to understand what you are asking, but it all comes down to the fact that you still need to rely on others doing the work and letting you know.

It wouldn't be very efficient. First of all, it relies on someone on PPT to see the Alert, secondly it relies on that person posting about it (or emailing you? - I am unsure of that part).

The thread is helpful but we are not here to make sure everyone who can't or wont use the toolbar can get the prize. I think it is a bit much asking other's to do the work if you (or anyone else) is just going to sit back and reap the benefits of other's work.

No-one would post, but wait for someone else to. It requires us all pitching in. :)

Huh? That would be like saying the "Termy is up!" threads are "others doing the work and letting you know". If I noticed that Tarla is around, I would notify others too. Also, all they'd need to do is post when Tarla is out (pretty much like they already do now), but in a seperate thread, leaving this one for discussion of Tarla.

In essence, it allows one to be notified only of the "Tarla is out" posts without the "But what item was it?" stuff (which is certainly interesting, but doesn't need instant email notification).
