I looked at the time you posted (1:53 pm) - if you just saw it flashing then, it was just the message that you missed Tarla as the last post above yours that got an item was 8:48 am. The giveaway only lasts about 5 minutes.
The Alert button will flash if you are opening it for the first time since an Alert went off. My Alert button was flashing this morning and it was just to say I wasn't getting anything.
It will also flash in another browser even if you have clicked on the Alert on another browser. Eg - I use IE and Firefox. I had the Alert in IE and got my prize. A couple of hours later, my son opened up Firefox and the Alert was flashing - but it said Tarla had left. It was the first time Firefox had been opened since the last Alert.
