You get a random band-related item with it (such as a cap, t-shirt, etc.) but mostly, people buy them for the avatars. ^.^

You get an item, but they're not all that great or valuable. Some bands give you avatars, though- Yes Boy Ice-Cream, Jazzmosis and Jub Zambra definitely do, not sure about any others.

Last week they offered only 2,500 tickets. This week they're offering 28,000. However, there are supposed to be some 117,000,000 players on Neopets, so I'm not really sure why they're not selling out. Even if there were 200,000 tickets floating around in addition to the 30,500 sold in the last two weeks, that's not even a quarter of one percent of the total user base getting the avatar.

If one out of 20 of the accounts have been active since Yes Boy Ice Cream started, and maybe 5% care enough for the avatar, that's your quarter-percent (5%*5% = .25%). I wouldn't be surprised if it were even less than that.
