I do accept friendly gifts and donations, but I don't go out begging for them; if people want to help me, that's fine, otherwise, I can take pride in the fact that I did it on my own.
I totally agree!
The stuff I donate are omelettes with meat, underwater fishing stuff and other random things... but I haven't had a neomail though

I don't usually donate stuff to the money tree... but a few weeks ago I was feeling generous and I donated 1,500 NP. A few minutes after, some random player neomailed me asking for a Lost Desert Paint Brush (I guess they saw my Desert Ruki...), I just reported and blocked them 
I don't beg or ask for items... I just love being able to say (truthfully) that I got a Desert Ruki by saving up and buying the Paint Brush with the NP that I made by myself

Be proud! It's almost half a million NP! And you earned that! You didn't mooch those NPs off of more wealthy Neopians! This is what I want to do myself as well - even if my desired pets cost even more than Lost Desert pets (Plushie pets, including one Krawk). But I want to get the feeling that I earned it. Anyway, nice job!

I got an idea. Just send anyone who begs for stuff all the things you would normally Discard (really junky junk like Piles of Dung and such).

I was cleaning out my SDB a couple hours ago and I decided it would be faster for me to just donate the cheap items instead of stocking them and pricing them @ 1np. In about 30 seconds, must have donated close to 100 items ( omlettes, jellies, tombola junk, etc. ) I got 3 neomails, all 3 of them were offering me "the chance to become a neopets staff member" . I swear, it's like those scammers keep trying.

I think one of the main problems is that there are those certain neopians that make boards giving out nps or items. Other Neopians see the boards, so they think it's okay to ask for them. Sadly, I don't ever think this system will change.

Actually, that would work quite well. Most of my friends have "I don't give away free stuff" on their lookups but occasionally they do get beggars neomailing them (in which case they frantically neomail me asking what to do)...
