Not too sure why you thought that.

When you are asking for your account back you need to email them as a nmail form just isn't big enough for all the information.

TNT will respond to that email.

TNT wouldn't email you just for a chat though. ;)

Okay I don't know what the implications of this are but I thought to post.

Sender ID is used to verify email senders. I found it odd that @support.neopets.com does not have one, yet mailto:support@neopets.com does.

I don't know what the implications of this are. Could be nothing as I think Premium members have @neopets.com mail but then they are Sender ID verified. I would think "real" neopets support staff would be too? o_O

*.neopets.com belongs to Neopets. Maybe mta3 is for internal purposes. Always check all your headers. Its possible to send from a bogus e-mail address claiming you are someone else. However, where that e-mail came from and from which user account and which IP, is normally not spoofable by most % of the population (requires e.g. anonymous remailer).

Maybe make sure you have your email headers expanded to see more information and if possible have an email host that supports Sender ID.

My friend here sent me another email just after, at my request, from mailto:heidi@support.neopets.com but I was able to tell it was from his IP. See?

From what I read after searching PPT forums for support.neopet.com, as silly as it sounds, the official emails begin with Hi and not Hello but do change to first person at closing. All lowercase emails from support staff are more likely to be official but any email address can be spoofed.

I assume if real staff froze your account the reason should be on your user lookup? Otherwise it would say self-frozen (by you or the scammer)?

You need information that the person who accessed your account can't actually provide to Neopets as well. The scammer knew you're password or they wouldn't have gained access, they could have known your friends by looking at your guild/neomail/neofriends, SDB is as simple as looking in the SDB. Overall, the questions TNT ask are pretty stupid and most of it is stuff that anyone on an account for more than about 5 minutes can gather.

When I had my account frozen in similar circumstances I resorted to providing them really obscure details. All my pets were adopted so I told them the names of the accounts the pets would have come from, I gave them names of other pets that have been on my account before for even the smallest time (borrowing avatar pets is good for something other than avatars!), etc.

Make sure you provide them with ALL the possible email addresses you might have used for the account yourself, if the account was started with an email and you later changed it, TNT will know and its not something a scammer will necessarily know.

If all else fails, and you registered your account with your correct D.O.B and you've got some sort of proof of identity/age then you could also consider scanning that and sending that to them as well, afterall, how many scammers happen to have the same D.O.B as a person who they scam an account from? Of course, this is something you will want to talk to your parents about if you're under-age as you should definitely get their permission to provide such sensitive information.

When my account was frozen I received the same response you did. I wrote a follow up and was told once again that I would never get my account back. The same day they unfroze my account and the only reason I knew it was open was a friend spotted it. Very strange and very poor customer service. They kept saying it was my fault for giving out my password when all I did was go to a lookup and was cookie grabbed. Seems to me like that is a security problem not a user problem.

It is odd that they didn't notify you - however anyone that loses an account needs to be aware to accept a certain amount of chastizing from TNT - not because you deserve, just because they're the ones who can give you your account back - and frankly it doesn't do any good to argue with them.

My account got stolen last year - because I used a hotmail account (they're easy to get into apparently) did I do anything wrong? Not really, but it wasn't worth arguing with them about it.

To the original poster - try and think of things that only you could know about your account (did you regularly access it from two computers? Or always use the same one? Have you had past pets you gave up? What did you spend the majority of your time doing on neo? What about any trades you've participated in lately (not active - before that) when was the last time you upgraded you bank account?)

Obviously you're not going to know all this - at least I hope you don't! But take what you do remember and write up a very polite, some what contrite, as concise as you can email and send it out. If you haven't gotten your account back in a week, send a very polite follow up with additonal info (if you can come up with anything)

I got my account back in 48 hours, there were roughly 7 emails exchanged between me and 3 staff members - and I got several lectures on internet safety that, to be honest, were a little insulting. But I also got my account back - don't argue with them about little things, focus on the mission.

Good luck...
