I had my own dorky system for naming my pets.

Semperaqua is two Latin words strung together: Semper (Always) and Aqua (Water). Always water. I made her during the summer when all I wanted to do was go swimming.

CrowBite is my old email address -- came from MST3K. Crow T. Robot's classic line "Bite me, it's fun."

TanCoul is the hero name of one of my favorite book characters, Tom Lynn from Diana Wynne Jones's Fire and Hemlock.

My Petpet names are just silly. Mojito (because its fun to say), Jenna (because she's a Tenna), Artemicion (because he's my favorite Moogle)... and Golgotha (because the sludgy reminds me of the *blank* demon from Dogma).

The secret to great names is simple.. be creative! I have four totally unique names which have never even been close to duplicated.

DauntlessDonny
DragonDoodies
MischievousMoe
PinkPTMascot

And the beauty of it is that "Donny" and "Moe" are my lab pets, and the names work for both sexes.

Unless they want that exact name and spelling. For example, if you really want Molly, and nothing else will do, then Molly679 is much better than Mawllee. Or, unless they just really want numbers. :) Neopets is such an individual game.

My main account gets made fun of once in a while because it has 3 numbers at the end. Dictionary-word name snobs on the NeoBoards dont like it too much, I guess. But Ive had it for near 6 years, it means something to me, so Im not bothered.

When I want something unique, I'll just think up a nonsense word. If its taken, I'll switch the letters and sounds until I come up with something else. I'd be more likely to name a real pet Snidenclim than something dictionary-ish like Reclused or Carps anyway. (PS: Carps is available :P )

I beg to differ as well. My pet is a memorial to my cat, so his name is a combination of my cat's name and birthmonth. It has numbers, but they mean something to me. To each their own.

*ahem* back to naming- try combining different languages, but say ot out loud a few times before comitting, some words were never meant to be combined! Also, for numbers, you can go with "the 3rd" (or III, etc)... suitable for royal pets.

i've had a TON of luck using Gaelic as the language I name my pets in. It's VERY rare for a gaelic name to be taken, and you can get some awesome meanings in there.

I always use Gaelic names where possible. My main Neo pet's first name is of Gaelic origin, which means he likes fire. I chose the name because I knew he was going to be a Draik. :)

I have a baby name book which has the meanings of many names and places as well as colours/tree, etc in other languages that people have named their children.

I have actually named most of my real life pets from the book - having their name match the animal is kind of a quirky thing I do.

I have a cat named Keegan, which is Gaelic for small and firey. (He is a persian), a dog named Melly (short for Melanie) which means dark/black- haired - she is a rottweiler and another cat was named Ashur meaning black - and he was a black cat. :)

When I first created my account, I already had 1 pet I named, but I decided to adopt one, it didn't worry me that she had 2 numbers after her name, but it really bugs me now. I had put a lot of work and neopoints into her before I really knew what I wanted to do, and by then it was too late to just pound her.

So yep, everyone has or had a numbered pet, that they wish they didn't.

*cough* Except when the numbers are more that just useless gibberish tacked onto the end of a name. IMO alternate spellings look stupider than names with numbers.

I think I'll have to agree with that statement :) My pet bug right now on my account is that my Boochi insurance/potential lab rat has an un-capitalised name. But the other one is properly capitalised. Aaah! *lol*

I personally try for just one-word names, but it's ridiculously hard! As inspiration, racehorse names are quite useful :)

For my first pet I chose a word that sounded cool and added ana to the end. The result is a really cool sounding, original, name. (For a female pet of course). For the other three I camped out at the pound for a couple days until I found a pet with no numbers, properly capitalized, and a cool-sounding name. Then no matter what the pet or pet's disease, etc., I adopted it and used the lab ray until it was something I liked.

I have a similar issue.. For some reason I didn't capitalize either of my girls names...but both my my boys names are properly capitalized. I could not be bothered by it, but both girls show up first when viewing my look up so my mind sees xxYY, which bothers me so much. Tad obsessive compulsive, but oh well.

Anyways. For pet naming, my first three are snobby one word real life names. My youngest main pet (not currently on my main account) and the two I've made since are all named after locations in Africa. I think they're very pretty and unlikely to be taken/replicated.

Another generator, which I wish I'd used when I first joined Neo.

My poor pets are victims of underscore abuse, I'm sad to say. I was young, I stick to that excuse. ;)

I am insanely lucky when it comes to pet names. I'm a huge Miyazaki fan and actually found Sen in the pound! I painted her Island and gave her a Faellie named Chihiro. I get random neomails from other Spirited Away fans all the time.
