The extremely common (but still hilarious) idea of an evil twin with a goatee originates - very famously - from the original Star Trek, not a random webcomic.

Doctor Spock's evil twin in the episode "Mirror, Mirror" had a goatee so the audience could tell the difference, but the characters were still fooled! This has been parodied so many times since that it has become more a universal cliche than an homage.

South Park and Futurama are more recent and popular series to do Mirror, Mirror homages, but it's seriously just everywhere :)

The first thing I thought of when I saw the Grundo was Spock... I'm such a Star Trek geek!

I grew up with Star Trek (still watch it), but the first thing I thought of was Futurama and Bender/Flexo (the metal goatee was hilarious!).
