Okay, 50 pets.
Several of which are in different poses for colours like Faerie
Times the amount of different types of clothing (Hats, scarves etc)
Times the number of each item in that category (Red Cap, orange cap etc)

That's how many images will be needed. The artists are already stressed (as we know by the several canned projects...), we don't need to stress them anymore for a pretty pointless project

With all the clothing available, it's in no way pointless. It would actually up the clothing market, because there would be a real use for them!

Ok...

Let's say every pet has 3 unique poses and one default. It's actually more than thing (especially in the case of the Chia), but we'll keep it low.

Thats 50 x 4 = 200 different pets that need blank clothes drawn.

Then you've got circle pose and happy pose. In a lot of the pets the two are different, however we'll say that means we'll need 1.5 times more pets drawn.

That's 300 different pets that need blank clothes drawn.

Then you've got the different types of clothes...

Hat
Cap
Shirt
Collar
Jacket
Sweater
Scarf
Glasses
Bandana
Bow Tie
Boots
Coveralls
Tiara
Slippers
Chain
Party Hat
Top Hat
Bobble Hat
Socks
Backpack
Purse
Umbrella
Chainmail
Masks
Costumes

That's 7500 pictures that need to be drawn allo so people can enjoy looking at their pets in clothes...

Judge's decision...pointless

They were planning to do this many years ago, thus the clothing store and clothes. However, the project was cancelled in favor of taking the site in a different direction. I believe the alternative was--but don't quote me on this--the Battledome. Take your pick. :)

My pets are A-ok with their nakedness. :)

As other people have said, it's just terribly impractical. Clothing makes good gallery items, but that's about it. :)

No they don't. All they'd have to do is make templates for the most popular clothing, with several of the others fitting in the category.

Hat
Shirt
Scarf
Glasses

Things like jewelry and masks wouldn't be wearable, much like the Toy Sailboat isn't a toy you can play with (I'll never understand that!).

It's not unfathomable. :D

At first I thought it would be impossible. They have to draw every possible clothes combination on every possible color and pose. But http://www.gaiaonline.com does it somehow. So, there must be a way.

I think because they only have to draw each item in about 10 styles or so and also because they started doing it from the beginning, so it's easier...

That's why they are able to do clothes on their pets/humans (sorry! I've never visited Gaia before until now). Also, if you look at the image URLs of their characters, they're PHP images, meaning that those images are generated, which is fantastically easy to do if all your characters have 1 basic pose and all of the clothing is made for/matches that 1 pose. There isn't an image file for every single possible pose of hair color, eyes, clothes, etc. They're all generated by PHP which creates a "temporary" image you could say.

Since we have 50 Neopets, and most of them are completely different in build/body structure, it'd be much more difficult to do such a project. You can't really compare Neopets clothes to Gaia poses, because they're very different. Same with that doll maker that someone posted. It's all 1 body type, and all the clothing is made for that particular body type.

Would you really want TNT to sacrifice a year or two making clothes for every Neopet body type instead of working on a new plot or new features?

Mon Jun 13, 2005 6:14 pm

Bleh. Don't like it. I don't even like the concept of plot characters being as dressed and 'human' as they are. They're pets, not people. They should stay in fur, or scales, or whatever.

its not going to happen....... its not even fun to debate about. If you realllly want to see your pets in clothing, buy a royal paint brush. :D

i think the closest to neopets ever doing this would be millsberry.com

i think its an interesting idea, but i think its a bit unworkable, since even the basic poses, some are ever so slightly different, like some circle poses are smaller than others, even for basic colors like brown and green, where its a color change. so its not as simple as putting a template over.

i think kinda equipping your pet with clothes, and then displaying it as a table is the most neopets might ever do.. simply because of the work they would need to do otherwise..

but otherwise some of the shopkeepers do look good with clothes, :P wish i could make my pets look like some of them :)

:O That's what they should do to make clothes useful! XD Make it so there are a few begining base things for the shopkeepers that you can dress up - maybe 5 or so - that you could buy clothes and 'equip' it to them. xD
