The Anthro Neopets Debate

Hmm. I seea lot of people aguing that they like anthros, or they're biased because they are anthro artists. But this isn't really a question of whether you like animals or anthros better, but whether it's right for pets, as in beings that are actually owned by another being, pixels or not, to have human characteristics.

As for the arguments I've seen saying that making pets anthro makes them more human, more character, easier to relate to, etc., just makes it worse! It's not right to own humans. That's why slavery is illegal, remmeber?

Personally, if this continues, I'm boycotting Neo again...

Just... think of them as more... advanced pets. I mean, a dog would be able to attack a stranger, the battledome is just like a dog with a friggen' laser beam on its head against a giant worm or something. They can do all that, but the anthro pets can only make a diffrence. Plots, running stores, etc. etc...

i think of that as well..... some neopets are kind of like really big petpets... which is how evolution would be. there are smarter beings, and there are less smarter beings, and usually smarter ones take care of less smarter ones, like petpets, or in many cases, giant chamber monsters or steeds.

I just dont like it when the "more advanced" neopets are so advanced that they are shaped like humans.

Not really... as how a lot of people see it as they're the parents of the pets. Just look at some of the comics.

I have nothing against anthro art in general, I actually quite like it. But it seems wrong on Neopets. I can come up with ways to explain why some Aishas have owners and some don't. I can't come up with ways to explain why some Aishas walk on all fours and some are bipeds with hair and breasts.

My take on how anthro is too anthro: imagine the pet naked. If the result seems inappropriate for a family website, it's too anthro.

The only anthro-pet that has made me feel uneasy is the latest Nimmo revamp - it looks too much like some lanky human with a frog head in some poses - the proportions are too similar. Otherwise I have no problem, it's down to how the users want to 'play' their pets - after all (apart from the Tombola guy) there are no human characters on the site, so how do the shopkeepers stock their shops without opposable thumbs? There is either a secret army of humans running Neopia when nobody is looking - or the pets are doing it themselves. To do that, they need human characteristics.

except apes are cousins not ancestors, but yes, good point.
as for the slavery thing, other than my not-so-secret desire to dominate all life, i have this.

If they really are "pets" then about 90% of pet related things on neo wouldn't really be possible... but yeah I agree they shouldn't really be too human-like...

How about being anthro pets being easier to draw and easier to have interaction with objects?

its not real in any manner that gives it any right by any laws except maybe copyright.
its not going to complain that it doesnt get pay, nor will it actually care.

Well, I like anthro art and everything, since I do draw a lot of it, but I don't like it on Neopets. For one, it doesn't look right. The hair on the Acara girl looks pasted on, and the Aisha girl doesn't look like an Aisha, she looks like a teenage girl dressed up as a cat.
Back in "the day", Neopets were pets. Lupes were on four legs. Aishas never wore skirts. You know, the whole deal. The only ones who actually wore clothes were faeries.

Bah. Proof that Neopets is going down the tubes. (And fast.)

...maybe you're right. xD; We do everything for our Neopets, but in other Neopian worlds they run their own lands and stuff...some just had the bright idea to let us 'adopt' them so they don't have to do squat. BD;
