I watched all the animations through, put every item in my SDB, didn't miss a day, and put every NP I got in the bank.
I Have no winter pets, alot of junk in my inventory, no winter petpets, I had about 13k np on hand, My account is like omg I dont know, almost 4 years old counting even though its not my oldest, and well I have no idea what else.

I got it too...

I have no winter / snow pets or pet pets.
I had nothing in my inventory.
I collected my items every day from the calendar - I watched MOST of the animations the whole way through. I think I accidentally skipped over one 3/4 of the way through.
I had about 13k neopoints on hand.
My account is a few years old and this is the first year I got the sidebar?

I got it

-I collected all the gifts this year
-I watched all the animatons fully before collecting
-I had three snowballs in my inventory
-I sent a snowball to a friend
-I played with one of this year's AC toys
-I had a few of the AC items in my inventory
-I didn't visit the snowager
-I didn't do any snow faerie quest
-I played snowball fight, snow wars II and ice cream machine once today before collecting
-I had 11k on hand
-My avatar was the Fir one
-All my pets are in the Neolodge (all full up, two happy and two delighted! including my active)
-I attached the petpet we got a few days ago.
-I don't have any snow or christmas pets and petpets

My older daughter (A) and I got it, my younger daughter (S) did not. All three of us collected every day, except S, who missed the first day. Those of us who got it SDB'd every item, the one who didn't did various random things with her stuff (used some of it, gave some of it away, etc. etc.) I'll put S in bold, to indicate that she's the one that didn't get the sidebar.

Other things we did/didn't:

- A has a Snicklebeast and an Abominable Snowball (both unzapped) attached to pets, and I zapped one of my petpets into a Christmas Kookith about 10 days ago, and left it like that for the rest of the month. S didn't have a petpet at all until the advent calendar gave her one, which she attached that day.

- None of us had snowflakes in inventory. S had a snowball in her inventory.

- We all gave and received snowballs to/from each other in December.

- None of us donated AC items (I don't think -- it's possible S donated something as she tends to fool around randomly with her stuff sometimes). We all donated non-AC items.

- S tends to keep her pet bloated. I try to keep my pets between fine and satiated. A lets her pets starve half the time. That's how they all were when we collected today.

- All of our pets were Delighted! except for one of A's who was Extremely Happy.

- I was using the Let It Snow avvie, A was using Chokato, S was using Faerie Peophin.

- When we got books from the calendar, A & I put them into our SDB and then each of us bought one copy to read. S read some of the books, gave some away, didn't buy any.

- S doesn't go to the Snowager. A & I go every day, and had an average month -- stole some stuff, got some blasts, etc.

- A doesn't do quests very often, and doesn't think she did any in the past month. S never does quests. I did a few quests in December, including one Taelia quest which I completed (and got something REALLY crappy for).

- S & I didn't get any advent items from the Money Tree. A got a couple.

- None of us played Ice Cream Machine

- S played with at least one of the advent items. I didn't. A doesn't remember.

- We watched all the animations in full, every day.

- A & I generally collected first thing in the morning, but there was not a definite set time when any of us went there.

seems like your neopet has to be at least happy, as the sidebar is called "happy holidays", and from what ive seen most have at least one pet that is happy, delighted etc...

Did everyone donate something to the money tree? Not nec. an advent item, just a donation period?

I got it, didn't do much though.

*No snow/xmas pets or petpets
*No snow items in inventory
*No snow/xmas avatar
*Did not watch all animations
*Did not donate anything to the money tree ever
*No advent prizes in inventory

So we can cross all that off of the list.

I did however:

*Collect prizes every day
*All pets at delighted! and bloated or very full, though I doubt that's it.

My money's on collect every day.

Got it -- and so did my two younger siblings.

We don't donate money to the money tree but we do give to Tombola, that probably wasn't the trigger though.

Here's what we all had in common today:

* visited the Advent Calendar every day (didn't watch the "movie" all the way through every time, and sometimes used a bookmark to leave so didn't always use the "return to" button)
* all pets "delighted" but not all bloated (at least one pet had to play with a plushie so we played with Advent Calendar prize plushies)
* visited the Snowager (but some of the pets got zapped)
* scratched a scratchcard (but nobody won)
* Everybody had at least one of the following items in their inventory:

-- snowglobe
-- snowball (at least 5 of these)
-- snowflake (wet or icy)
-- something with the word "Christmas" in its name
-- cake with the words "New Year" in its name
-- something with the words "Advent Calendar" in its name
-- Winter Blechy Hat

I don't remember everything else we did, so probably there are many unnecessary red herrings.

If someone tries all of those things and *doesn't* get the sidebar, maybe there's something I've overlooked...

Edit: PS, I *think* we've collected every advent calendar prize for the past 3 years, I'm not sure it's sufficient just to collect every day.

It has to be collecting every day. I didn't and I have no sidebar.

I'd say to disregard what went on last year...maybe last year it was random and TNT decided to assign a criteria to it this year to cover their butts.

EDIT: NM, I didn't read far enough back to see that some people who'd collected every day didn't get it this year and vice versa.

I got it! One of my friends didn't unfortunately though.

Seems as if there are a multitudes of lists right now so I'm not going to list everything I did unless someone is going to try and figure everything out.

background_noise, here's what me and my fiance (who both got it) have in common with you:

-visited the Advent Calendar every day
-visited the Snowager (this month)

I went first thing this morning, and he did some "shopping" on neopets before collecting.

It's gotta be the every day thing.

edit: I also didn't play a single winter game the entire month, have no snowballs equipped, and both of us donated cheap items to the money tree. He had a snowball equipped to a non-active pet and I had two snowballs in my inventory though.

I finally got the sidebar! I was quite disappointed that I didn't get it last year, and was more than a little concerned I wouldn't this year, either, but I did. Here's what I had, since we're trying to find patterns;


-I had a snowball in my inventory
-I visited the calendar every day and watched the animations all the way through
-I did not donate to the money tree or send anyone a gift during the month of December.
-I equipped a snowball to my active pet just before going to the advent calendar
-My inventory was almost full (More than 45 items, but less than 50)

There's a bunch of other stuff, too, but I'm only including the stuff that most people seem to have in common.

RIght, it's pretty clear to me that an important factor (if not *the*) is collecting the prizes every day.

HOWEVER, in this thread there are people who collected every day and didn't get it. Explaining these anomalies is simple!

Remember a couple of weeks ago when there was a day the advent calendar went a bit funny, and had to be reset; allowing some people to collect twice? I bet that anyone who collected before that 'reset' and not after have not, according to TNT's database, collected every day.

Yes! I did get it this year. I merely tried doing ~everything~ Christmas-y this round that I couldn't remember doing last year. Yes I have a snowbunny attached to an inactive pet, but had same pair last year when I ~didn't~ get sidebar.

During December, I did go each day, watched animations before collecting. I bought books that were shorted thru glitch, so I did end up having everything at one point or another either in inventory or sdb.

I played with all my pets with 2 or 3 of the advent items, read the books to my 'smart' pet, replaced for sdb, did not feed them advent items that I recall. Did not attach new petpet.

I visited all the shops/places links at Terror Mountain, but only bought from 1 or 2 places, did hav Donny repair a sack of coins, & printed out some Christmas gift tags (cuz I was too lazy to buy more. )



As for this, I did not go back. I only collected once each day, & I always collected after Midnite NST but before 6AM. One day there was ~nothing~ but prizes doubled the next day.
