OH OH! There was a guild.
On neo. An annorexia guild. I reported it a few days ago, because I was offended, having an eating dissorder myself. It was encouraging 13 year olds to weigh 85 pounds, and there catchprase was 'I wont eat till im her *insert skinny annorexic lady picture*' And TNT still didnt do anything.
http://www.neopets.com/guilds/guild.phtml?id=1791257 If your interested in checking it out. To see if im over reacting or if thats just not hte kind of thing to be on neopets :/
So yes, I also would find this offensive
Oh, And I love how the fat ones have scraggly hair and arnt very pretty.
JUST Fat people Dont have scraggly hair. They arnt ugly (aside from me) and being fat DOESNT make you automatically ugly. There are ugly skinny people. Just because your thin doesnt mean anything D<

That guild doesn't look like it's encouraging eating disorders. On the contrary, it seems more like a support group from the text on the front page. I'm not sure if that is allowed on Neopets, but it's not offensive I think.

I personally think sending a message like the one sent in the Le Tea game to young people who are still trying to figure out who they are and being bombarded with pictures of unhealthily thin women here and there is disgustingly insensitive. I also love how the fat/skinny boards on Neoboards are pretty much ignored, but say Bush and you're toast! It doesn't even matter if this game is shilling tea or dissing soda or what have you, that's just a glaze to hide the real message: Skinny = Pretty. I guess some folks think when you can see someone's rib cage, that's pretty. Joke's on them, though--that's pretty much the unhealthiest point someone can get to before they die.
EDIT: Kimiko, you don't think a picture that says "I'm so ugly I'll never get HIM, What was I thinking? Why was I even trying? Don't eat that. YOU'RE FAT. NOT skinny enough. Life would be BETTER if you were like her" is sending the wrong kind of message? Or the guild's subtitle, "Hunger hurts but starving works"? Or "No food until I'm her!" with a picture of what appears to be hip bones jutting forth from barely any fat? To see what kind of stuff goes on in there, I joined just temporarily--it's a SUPPORT group, as in they SUPPORT one another in keeping their eating disorders, NOT getting rid of them! One person is 5'6" and 76 pounds. That person is quite possibly on the verge of dying, yet she brags about this like it's something good. The text on the front page is intentionally misleading, probably so TNT won't think "Banned!" but "Okay, they're helping each other out, Kept!"

That guild is a support group by everything I read. Maybe the picture and comment in the top left-hand corner may be offensive to some, and maybe a suggestion could be made to change that, but I think it is meant to draw the attention of people with these disorders to the guild. It is definitely not promoting these things, and is in fact trying to help these people.
Edit: If you have anorexia, maybe you should check into it further and talk to them about how the picture made you feel. They might just be a decent support group.

Lilly: Like I said, I went in to the boards area and saw some of the posts. Aside from the 5'6" and 76 pound girl, there was one girl who felt disgusting because she had birthday cake on her birthday and another who ate one eighth of a watermelon and then went exercising. One girl offered up the "advice" that the color blue is a natural appetite suppressor. If this group were really a support group, trying to help people get over their disorders, wouldn't they be encouraging one another to eat in order to get back up to a healthy weight instead of bragging about how little they eat or how little they weigh? I'm still skeptical about it, but we're all entitled to our own opinions.

I can see how their front page suggests they're supporting kids trying to
beat these diseases, but once you get into their message board, it's kind of scary:
EDIT: Cut because 10in2010 pretty much summarized the quotes I used.
IMO, they just sound like they're encouraging each other to be as thin as they possibly can get without requiring hospitalization. Thank God I never fell that deeply into that mentality when I was younger.

Soda won't help with that, but it's not going to make you fat unless all you do is sit around drinking it. I don't know what's in le Tea, but I'd feel healthier drinking a nice glass of water...
Actually, soda will hydrate you just as well as water or anything else. It just has more sugar and junk.
I believe the only beverage you can drink that won't hydrate you is hard liquor: there's not enough water in it to counteract the diuretic effects.
As for the game, I agree it's messed up.
(Though as a size 14 -- and still in the range of healthy for my height -- I find the notion that size 12 is somehow big rather disturbing, too.)
Well, the sugar hinders water absorption and caffeine is a diuretic, so they don't really help. As long as you're getting enough fluids, though, I see nothing wrong with enjoying an occasional soda. Sure it's not that healthy, but as long as you're staying healthy in general, it's not going to do much damage (if any). And yeah, you can be "fat" and perfectly healthy; skinny can also be healthy. Personally, I think it's more unhealthy to be underweight to be overweight. One of the prettiest women I know is completely round.

Oh man, This is just terrible. I've seen not only on neopets, but now
MASS MARKET GAMES. I recently bought "New Super Mario Bros." for my Nintendo DS thinking it was a harmless videogame. Come the first level, it turns I was dead wrong. I hit a box with a question mark on it and out comes a mushroom. I was thinking it was more points, but no. My Mario turned
bigger.
Nintendo is actually
PROMOTING the use of psychadelic mushrooms!!!
But that's not all! Later on in the level, Mario jumped on a turdle and use it's shell as a weapon!
First shrooms, now killing animals?! What is
WRONG with you, Nintendo?? Neopet's fan-base is smaller than that of Nintendo's, so sales of this game are through the roof! Imange what comes next! There is no way that I will
EVER play a Nintendo game system again. Or Neopets for that matter! I can't believe what the world is coming to.

WOW, that was hilarious. My appendix almost busted from reading that hilarious tale!! How ever did you think of crafting that tale of ultimate humor, Comedy King? What is your secret?
(end sarcasm)
Shinobi, the thing is that we can tell Mario just uses mushrooms as a power up and all of that. However, the le tea thing is a different thing entirely. But, as someone said to another guy on this board earlier, y'all really just don't understand. Guys can basically get as fat as they want to and nobody will really care aside from those oiled-up muscle freaks (they don't count), but there is quite a lot of pressure on women to stay or become skinny.
So maybe you shouldn't post if you don't get it or if you're just going to make lame jokes that don't really pertain to the issue at hand, other than to ridicule some of us for holding an opinion that you disagree with. (We really appreciate that, by the way...end sarcasm again)
PS: you spelled psychedelic wrong

Okay, I didn't look into the boards and see that, but unfortunately I think I may understand why TNT probably hasn't done anything. If the group itself advertises as being a support group, which is not something they can consider offensive, then it can't be blocked/disbanded for that. The offensive content, from what I'm hearing, comes from the people's comments, which would not be red flagged on violence/language filters and if silenced would go against the idea of free speech of individual members. The best way I can think would be for TNT to give a warning to the guild, and the guild banning people who promote the diseases as not in the spirit of the guild.

Well, according to a paper I read, for each mg of caffeine you drink, you excrete about an extra 1.2 mL of water. A soda contains 35-45 mg of caffeine, which means an extra 42-54 mL out. Since a can of soda is 335 mL, most of which is water, you still take in a LOT more water than you lose.
I was on a scuba forum once where they worked this all out. :-)

That's good to know.
One other point. Not all softdrink(as we call it in Aust)/soda contains caffeine. So if you are just drinking lemonade then all you have to worry about is the sugar and there are diet versions of all types of softdrink.

Thank you for clearing that up, spudge, I was beginning to wonder myself.
