I think the recipes on the Rainbow Sand Sculpture and the Modern Sand Sculpture are switched around...I saw them at a shop, their descriptions were:
"todo - orangeredpurpleblue"
"todo - rainbowinvisible"
Looking at the results, the components seem mixed up between this two.

I got this one by doing glowing + invisible + rainbow
edit: it gave me the glowing back

someone who has the rainbow sand sculpture posted this in the shop.
Rainbow Sand Sculpture = Bottle of Purple Sand + Bottle of Blue Sand

I honestly don't think it was, it may be a prize from the TCG (Secrets of Mystery Island) but not the plot.

I don't think it was a plot item either. all i know is that you don't get it from tombola
