My gut tells me they will only accept the answer after the change.

That way, it is "more fair" to the people that aren't hardcore LC'ers and try to get it as quickly as possible. It isn't fair that those of us that really care about the LC get the answer so quickly all the time.

Similar to what TNT did with the war ... make it much easier for newbie battlers while making it basically impossible for people who trained their pets and ended up rank 2. :)

The other argument is ... by next Thursday, they will have forgotten about the change and just accept the answer that is valid at that point in time.
