I'm probably not going to be popular about this, but this is how I feel...

I love animals. And I thought TNT was great about taking care of pets, playing with them, making you feel horrible about abandoning them, having vegan and vegetarian foods, etc

But now, they've introduced fishing. I can't tell you how much this disappoints me...

Fishing in the real world is an incredibly cruel and inhumane practice. I don't want to start a debate or flame war here, so please don't start one either. Even though this is pixels, Neopets was more animal friendly before this.

Several of us on other animal boards have already begun writing letters to TNT regarding this.

This just might be the thing I needed to quit Neopets for good.

*shakes her head* How could you, Neopets...how could you...

If you don't like it, don't fish :] Fortunately the fishing spot is pretty far underwater in the ruins so you never have to go there if it upsets you that much :]

It's fake, and it doesn't mean that neopets team is going out and fishing. They're just trying to make a fun game. Don't leave neopets over something that small.

Maybe these are magic fish which don't need fish to be caught...

I don't mean to start a flame war but aren't there a lot more "cruel and inhumane" thigns on the site including regular wars, (petpet) battledome, and "lab-raying" pets...

I know that... It's just the idea that Neopets is condoning the practice of ripping a living being's mouth out with a sharp hook and letting the creature die slowly by "drowning" in the air.

What's next? Giving your unwanted Kaus to the butcher to make some rare beef items?

:blink: So fishing bothers you, but items like "Blumaroo Steak" don't?

Not to mention all the foods based on petpets and petpet parts.

I've always thought of Neopets as being a wee bit twisted, myself.

Plus, neopets are animals - animals eat fish. Sure these animals use fishing rods but that is because....well, it's because they're not real.

Fake pets, fake fish, fake fishing. If it doesn't make sense to have fishing as it's inhumane in your opinion, what about the battledome where pets beat each other senseless? Or the game Feed Florg where you feed the guy helpless petpets? Or the lab, etc.

It's just a game and not real, so I guess if you don't like it then just avoid fishing. Even though it isn't real and they're animals anyway
