If you have a painted petpet and then zap the petpet, will it revert back to it's painted form or will it revert back to it original form(unpainted)?

I read all the splits from when the Petpet lab map was originaly released and only one person asked the same question I have, and the answer they got wasn't really specific.
I also looked here in the lab map section of PPT and on Jellyneo and also at the Rainbow pool.
If anyone can tell me for sure please do. I would appreciate it greatly.

I would think it would go back to exactly how it was before it was zapped, but that's just my opinion. But since there is the chance of the petpet being zapped into oblivion, why would one want to risk it with a painted (and/or expensive) petpet?

That's the thing. I want to lab my Mutant Harris and my Pirate Yullie, which I paid a fair amount of neopoints for, but incase I don't get anything from the lab, I would like to have my painted petpets back.
When I bought the lab maps, I stupidly put them on my main account instead of a side, not thinking that one day I'd have the pets I wanted and the that the maps would be of no use to me anymore. I do have a second map on one of my sides, but it just seems a shame for one of the 500,000 point items to go to waste.

I just bought a Spyder and a plushie paint brush, and detached my Yullie. I'm going to try the lab and wait for a species or color change and then detach it to see if it reverts back to a plushie Spyder. I'll report back here with my findings.
I don't know why I didn't think of this before, so simple.Duh!

Are you aware that the petpet lab ray can make your petpet completely disappear? You might not want to take your chances with it...

Oh yes, I'm aware it can make your pet disappear off the face of Neopia. For some reason I'm willing to take that chance, even though I'm not willing to zap a petpet if doesn't turn back into it's painted form. Ridiculous, I know.
I got some really good results when I was using it before and I've never had a petpet disappear on me.

Knocks-on-wood

Crosses-fingers

And prays it never happens

As for my results: My plushie Spyder turned into a Blue Barbat this morning and I can confirm that it does indeed return to it's PAINTED form when detached. Of course it might not work with every petpet, but I'm confident enough to think it does.

EDIT:
Ok, I've decided that I'd rather not take a chance of my petpets disappearing, so I'm putting my Harris and my Yullie in my SDB (hope that glitch is fixed) and attaching a couple of Spyders. Just to be safe.

Geez Moongewl, thanks for striking fear in the minds of fellow Neopians. ;)
