*sigh*
Well, this could mean several things.
After reading some statements in the articles, I fear Neopets really IS going to turn into a "for kids and tweens" site.... :( I love cute, but I think this can only go downhill:

Quote:
As VP and general manager of Nickjr.com, Reppen oversaw strategy, creative and editorial for the site, transforming it from a television promotional site to a leading parenting website for parents of young children. She is also credited with spearheading the acquisition of local online parenting resource GoCityKids, and launching Nick Jr. ParentsTV, a broadband video channel. In addition, she produced the first-ever 3D online games for preschoolers and led the networks' preschool introduction to wireless, interactive TV and innovative online gaming experiences.

Quote:
"NeoPets gave Nickelodeon a head start in capturing what it means to be a successful digital brand today and Kyra will continue to build upon that success," Zarghami said. "NeoPets allowed us to capture the greatest share of kids and tweens on the Internet and is another creative laboratory for us to create great 360-degree content for our passionate and targeted audiences."

whoa whoa whoa! I like my pets the way they are. Next thing you know, they'll be changing the way the Lupe looks. I love the way the pets look, and Adults can only take so much cute. If to much changes, Neopets will prolly lose alot of players.

I just sent in a long comment to Neopets, using the last quote that I put up there.
I stressed that not only children play this site, and that I believe the larger percentage of their Premium members are not children. I basically reminded them that it started out as a game for bored college students, and hoped that they wouldn't forget their roots.

I also managed to get something in there about all the help that new users get (petpets, paint brushes, etc.) when it seems as though oldies are ignored.
*shrugs* I doubt it will help, but it made me feel better.

You know thinking about it, perhaps it will be a blessing in disguise. Catering to kids and tweens, maybe they will make the Neopets game easier.

How tragic would that be! Where NP are just handed out, Avatars don't have a cut off date and are never retired, and the prices of all rare items have a max of 100k.

Could you imagine the rioting which would ensue if that went down?

I'm not surprised at all. Why? Neopets is, essentially, a buisness. It exists to make money. Children are much easier to target than adults, and more likely to buy into all of the products (stuffed toys, trading cards..).

It's going up the pokemon street, in my opinion.

-thinks of a paint brush being only 100k- do you know how much chaos that would cause? Thats a bad thought. Inflation would prolly find a way around it, and rare/retired items become unbuyable.

Like people wanting 1 mil for a one time use paint brush. Its ridiculus. you want 1 mil nps? Then play the games, and earn the points the same way everyone does.

Only problem, with Neopets taking the Pokemon road....Pokemon hardly get any attention nowadays.

I think some of you are overreacting. They just said that she worked for NickJr., not that she's a preschooler herself. I'm sure that she realizes that the audiences aren't exactly the same. ;)

Frankly, NickJr.com is a very well-run website now; it was pretty much nothing when she first took over. I'd like to see what she'll do with Neopets. No, I really don't think she'll do anything ridiculous like changing the game completely. She's a pretty savvy businesswoman from what I've heard. I expect her to do well and do right by the users.

Crud! We'll probably see all end of plots and wars and anything that would resemble anything that would require you to even think a little.

The site will start being geared towards the Nick Jr Kids, we'll be flooded with little kids, and everything will be cutiefied!

Dr Sloth will disappear because he is just too scary.

They'll be all these advertisements urging you to eat your veggies and look both ways before crossing the street.

They'll get rid of the battledome because it sends the wrong message.

We will see even more sponcered foods on neopets, and less custom content.

Nick charactors will run amuck along with our neopets.

We'll be able to adopt a freaking teletubbie or something!

All new pet colors will make pets resemble something from Nickolodeon.

They'll probably just get rid of the chat area, or most of it or monitor it so you can't even say doo doo or peepee.

You'll get frozen for stupid stuff, like saying doodoo.

They'll get rid of the pound because it is just "too sad" for little kids or something. You'll probably be stuck with a pet you create to "build the idea of being responsible". Or some junk like that.

They'll finally finish neoschool, because it is "educational" and therefore "good" for kids. But your pets will learn about stuff that happens in the real world, instead of stuff that happens in the neopet world, though.

They'll get rid of all toys that resemble guns or violent things.

They'll get rid of anything that might make a kid have get an idea or mimic something they see on neopets. So if they don't like a certain toy, story in the neopian times, or whatever Boom, it is gone.

They'll stop making games about neopets and you'll see more nickolodeon type games.

Everything will be geared up towards promoting education, therefore everything will be educational, but probably less fun.

You'll see stupid random events poping up ever second that say stuff like
Did you know?

The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,901.55 miles (40,075.16 kilometers)!

Did you know? You should drink eight glasses of water a day!

Stuff like that.

We will see so many more advertisements. They'll be top bars, side bars, flashing bars, talking bars, pop ups, scream ups, and every kind of ad in between. Well it is starting to get that way already, but it WILL get worse. Still, the ads will be geared towards children, so they won't be bad ads, but there will be more of them. So basically they'll probably shrink all the neopian worlds down to postage stamp size and then ads will be everywhere, and you'll basically need a magnifying glass to find neopia.

The worse thing is Neopets is going to be ON TV, probably. They'll churn out very badly drawn cutsy cartoons with no point at all. They'll probably make some kiddy puppet/muppet show thing, with live action charactors teaching their neopets to count and crap.

Can you count to ten? I knew you could!

We'll see neopet beach towels, blankets, curtains, underwear, and stuff everywhere. More neopets toys, Coloring books, and more neopets stuff everywhere.

If you are an adult playing neopets, you'll loose all dignity at all, and respect from anyone who knows you do. So you better only play at midnight with all the lights out, and when no one is home and never never never tell anyone you do, because neopets is about to get very very very stupid!

They'll probably make a lot of money and have so many little kids playing it that they won't care about what the older people think about the way the game is going. It doesn't matter, eventually if anyone has a gimmic they are going to try to get as many selfish little kids as possible out there in the world screaming "I WANT THAT MOMMY I WANT IT I WANT IT!"

Be prepared for a drastic sudden change, CHRISTMAS IS COMING. It is no surprise they sold right before Christmas. They still have october and november to start mass producing some cheap, fall apart, but highly desirable toys just in time for Christmas. And they have time to intruduce a few badly drawn pointless and stupid cartoons or muppet shows on Nick.

I think perhaps it would be a good thing, maybe she'll care more about the site and not always about the profit.

Hire more support and moderator staff, not allow countless delays in new features, and make the whole site more user friendly. (not to mention the ads)

:( smudgeoffudge made me sad

Can u just imagine a nick junior show where a Shoyru helps teach a baby jubjub how to count to 10? Or a Rainbow Usul teaching the alphabet to a baby korbat. Perhaps we'll see a baby Neopets show just like the muppets had their own muppetbabies show.

I actually agree - Neopets is a family site, which means lots of adults do play. Lots of families play. It is really in their best intrest to keep the site the way it is for the most part, with appeal to children but enough things to keep the adults around - and to keep the adults, the ones with the money buying things like Neopets Premium, plush toys, shirts, magazines, tcg cards, etc.

So all hope isnt' lost yet. I'm sure we won't see too much change around the site. (And I'm very very hopeful of it. @.@) But I'm hoping maybe the site will be more 'friendly' in terms of support and the like, especially since it will want to keep the kids and tweens about.

And maybe the 'learning curve' of the site will become a bit less steep (a lot of younger new players are getting frustrated with portions of the site rather easily), and I'd like to see them tame a bit of the insane inflation. (Draiks, anyone? They're in the 3-4 million range now!! I'm willing to pay 1-2.5 million for one, but this is insane now.. as we get more players, more items should be released to meet with the demands to keep the prices more 'steady')

One can only hope. XD;
