Hope this is the appropriate section, if not then mods please move :)

A good development for Neopets, actually:
http://www.gametab.com/news/798581/

Quote:
"Speaking to representatives from online auction house eBay, Slashdot confirmed what they were worried about: the online auction hub is canceling auctions for virtual property. Slashdot says: "This includes currency, items, and accounts/characters; not even the 'neopoints' used in the popular Neopets service is exempt from this decision.""

So, now does not only Neopets not allow it...eBay doesn't either.

I thought ebay already didn't allow it? Thats why they usually cancelled the auctions i'd seen for such things... (unless i'm just that out of the loop)

I've got no clue - maybe it's possible on other sites, but they're getting rid of it all.

I know that eBay were cancelling auctions of Neopets items because it's against the Neopets T&C, but looks like they're doing everything now.

Of course, I may be wrong and also out of the loop. Who knows XD

Gone, forever.

I'm out of the loop...I only know because my boyfriend sent me the link, actually. He doesn't play Neopets but knows I do, so he sent it to me. I thought eBay had already done that too, but now I guess it's for certain.

I have seen NP on sale (bid) at iOffer, an eBay competitor. I notified them and TNT about the Neopets ToC. Good to see word got around. :)

Up until now, I've really never heard of anyone selling NP and pets on eBay, but I have heard of people selling things from WoW and D2. But I guess it makes sense because Neopets technically is a giant RPG in website form.

I think they're right to ban it. It should be just for fun, not for profit.

Same here. I never thought anyone could sell neopoints.

But you can still buy prize codes, almost the same thing as buying np's imo.

When someone would auction off a Neopets account, items, etc, eBay would cancel the auction and report the persons IP to Neopets.
I read that somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly where.

But don't you have to actually have to buy the merchandise to get the prize code? That's an official Neopets item, not someone else's virtual items. Or am I thinking of something else entirely?

I always thought that was shady too, but my husband says that you're buying something physical and that Neopets is getting money from that physical piece of paper, so it's very different. *shrug*

lol! I just thought of something. Wait until people start selling "special" prize codes... ones with account names and passwords written on them. :P

I dunno, I've never tried to buy anything Neopets over ebay, so I don't know how often people tried to sell nps or anything. I do remember seeing a thread about someone selling nps, then people reported it to ebay, then it was removed later.

I wonder if it's mainly because people are ebaying off maxed stats accounts on WoW and other MMO's.

My daughter plays World of Warcraft and she says that it is a common occurence for people to sell their gold for actual money. I am amazed.

There are a lot of MMORPGs where selling virtual money and land is a-ok.

Anyway, neopets' TOS specifically bans selling anything virtual on sites like eBay, IIRC.
