in my opinion it is, with a million ads, sponsored games, etc...eventually it'll be McNeopets or something

-however, i do agree that it is still fun to play. i am still pretty annoyed by the little mosquito noises that stupid 'kill the mosquito for an ipod nano' ads, and etc.-

You're right, it is already McNeopets.

But it's not one big ad. It's similar to reading a magazine - you can fairly easily skip over the ads and ignore them. When I had dial-up, that was another story - the ads actually slowed down page loading enough to make non-flash games almost unbearable. You can ignore the sponsor games, too, if you choose to. I choose to play some of them for the quick neopoints.
And McDonalds isn't just one big ad, either. They have very tasty fries!

I answered "I suppose," but I don't think the poll options are really reflective of my opinion.

Neopets, like every online game of this sort, exists fundamentally to make money. The most effective way to do that, short of charging to play (and we certainly can't have that, can we?) is by selling advertising. So, in a sense, I suppose you could say it's just a big block of advertising.

However, you make that sound like a bad thing. Okay, it's irritating when you've got a flashing banner overhead (and the ones that jump up right where I'm going to click are very annoying), but really, what do you expect? If you want a well-maintained site with an actual staff (since Neopets is way bigger than you could maintain with just volunteers at this point), you need to pay them somehow. And since I believe we're mostly agreed that making it pay-to-play is a bad thing, advertising is just something that must be done, for the good of the site.

So, to sum up - yes, it's full of ads, and that's just fine by me.

After being around since the days where users were bribed to sign up with a meager handful of sponsors, I think Ive adequately blocked the increasingly prevalent ads out. Not just with adblocking, either. I couldnt tell you anything about current sponsors, beyond the fact that sometimes they feed your pet if you go to some place and click some buttons. And one time a Catch le Tea game caused some controversy.

While Neopets is a giant billboard, I'll pretty much mimic what was already said. It doesnt bother me, and I can do plenty of things unrelated to sponsors. When they start the bribery again, I'll pay more attention.

It's probably a regional thing, as I don't have any trouble at all with ads. I've never encountered a swat-mosquito-win-Ipod ad either.

The only ads I see, are
- the banners at the top. None of them produce sound or pop up or anything, they're just animated flash (and sometimes not even that, just jpg pictures!).
- I don't have the toolbar, so nothing annoying from there
- The tiny game ad below the menu at the left (I don't even notice that one anymore)
- The few sponsor games and pages that I visit, don't do anything annoying either.

I decided to vote on the "I Suppose" option. I encounter ads on each page on the bottom, certain times on the top, and rarely in the sidebar. But there are a little less sponsor games, or I just don't pay attention to them. But Neopets is just there to make a bunch of money, not to make all of the users perfectly happy with no ads and lose money. And because Premium users pay a good amount of money to view the site with no ads and other things, they are making more money than they would probably earn off of the average user. I think that I am speaking for a lot of us here, but I'd rather have the ads on Neopets than have to pay to play like other online sites do. I don't think that there are too many ads, but any more would just be overwhelming to me.

(McDonalds has awesome fries and I love the McChicken)

Oh... oh yes.

I've already noticed that the Altador Cup and the Daily Dare are sponsored by someone (or something?!), even if I have AdBlock blocking them.

ABSOLUTELY! The ads are insane.

The few times I've had to use IE for neopets, I literally cringed. I can't stand all the flashing animated ads plastered all over every bloody page. If I didn't have the ability to block ads on my browser, I wouldn't be playing neopets at all, it's that simple. The ads would take away all the fun for me.

I just realised that my pop up blocker is the reason I don't see those ads :) I was recently battling someone in the dome, and I deceided to allow pop ups, since I need the status window. Now all of a sudden I get pop ups..

I've been with Neopets for ummm wait ummm 6 years since yes like someone up top said you they bribed you to visit and sign up to other websites (from which you got span like ANYTHING).

The ads don't bother me much (I'm not seeing any popups....and neopets is allowed popups on my blocker, maybe its a premium or neopets bar thing) I uninstalled the bar because it has adware in it (it redirected my browser to some funny search site everytime it couldn't find a page). But that's you choice to install it so...

The only ad that bothers me is that flash bar at the top of the screen, and then only because it's flash. It takes forever to load and here in SA if you're not on dial-up you have a cap of so and so amount of upload/download a month (ie. I have a 1Gb cap and then I get shoved onto REALLY slow connection, something like 28kb/s) and obviously you pay per gig. And those little flash ads EAT my cap. But other than that no.

I just wish they'd unflash those stupid ads. On that note I wouldn't mind it if they unflash half the site. I despise flash and it despises. *nodme*
