So on a whim I started playing Neopets again after being away for about a month. The Negg festival looked fun so I've been on every day since that started. Then something odd happened. I clicked on my bookmark to get to Neopets and I wasn't logged in. Odd, I thought, but I'd seen that kind of thing happen a lot on the site since I joined in 2000. So I went to the login page and was told that my password was incorrect. "Impossible!" I cried, and tried again...unsuccessfully. Oh no....
I fire off the e-mail to TNT stating my troubles that I've been logged off and cannot log back in, hoping that it's just a glitch. This evening I recieve this back:

Quote:
Hello,

Your account was frozen due to one (or more) of the following three reasons: 1) You voluntarily gave your username and password to a password scamming page while attempting to gain neopoints or items; 2) You voluntarily gave your username and password away to a scammer over an instant messaging service or an email in an attempt to gain neopoints, items, trophies, or avatars; or 3) You attempted to download a cheat program that stole your username and password.

After the scammer got into your account, they used it to try to scam other users out of their hard-earned neopoints, items, and pets.

While we do try to return scammed accounts, we will NOT return accounts stolen while attempting to cheat. If this is the second time you have lost your account due to giving your information away, it will not be returned.

Again, we remind you NOT to give your password out to ANYONE for ANY reason and to keep your browsers updated. Also, giving out your instant message information is potentially very dangerous - which is why it is against our Terms & Conditions. Scammers can also steal your information that way.

Now, as an adult of 23 years I know that Neopets is just a game and there is no point in the futile attempt to cheat. Also I know for CERTAIN that I have never given out my password. It saddens me to hear that someone has used my account to scam others. I find that more upsetting than the fact that I may have lost my own hard earned items and np. I mean, what newbie isn't going to trust someone with a 9 year old account?

Sorry about the long windedness of this post but I wanted to know if a) anyone thinks I'll get my account back or b) did anyone see/hear of any suspect or scammy behaviour on site from someone using the username melmite?

:(

I can't answer your second question, because I don't really frequent the neoboards or keep in touch with other users or what they're up to.

As to your first question - it's tough to tell. I strongly suggest you continue sending in requests to get your account back - the TNT support staff has been much better the last couple of years, and so the odds are good (but not great) that even if you lose your belongings, you'll get your account and pets back.
