(BANG) - Movie alien E.T. is set to return to Earth over 20 years after he first wowed audiences.
Actress Drew Barrymore - who was only six when she played Gertie in the 1982 film - is in talks with original director Steven Spielberg to bring the intergalactic traveller back to our screens in a blockbusting sequel.
A Hollywood insider is quoted by Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying: "Drew has spoken to Steven about it. Although he thought she was joking at first, he's actually giving it serious thought.
"Drew thinks the world needs another feel-good movie like 'E.T.' right now and she's prepared to work with Steven to make it happen."
In the new film, E.T. would meet up with his now-adult friend Elliott in a desperate bid to save his alien race from being wiped out.
It is not yet known how many of the original cast are planned to star in the sequel.
Not another sequel to ruin a perfectly good movie.

Dammit, you'd think Spielberg would know better.

Don't be so negative. It is Spielberg who is directing the movie, after all.

*looks with obvious hate at The land before time 13*
if spielberg aint a sellout, im Dave the spider.
oh well, we can atleast hope that somone parodies the film so that the Alien race attacks -and wipes out- earth aswell.
and i can
so see some badly disguised political undertones to this film.

Exactly. He's proved himself at being good at what he does. It's not like he's straining for money. What's the point of making an ET 2? If he wants to make another movie, he should come up with another original idea.

What's the point of doing it now? I was 1 when the first came out. The time has gone.

Hmm.. well I don't think it'd be that bad. Well.. if done right of course.. but Spielberg is good at what he does.
I'd want to see it

*sobs in a corner*
Fun fact. If I were a guy, my brother wanted to name my Elliot. He kept begging my mother, simply because he loved ET so much.
But still. I'll be sobbing in my corner.

I don't know. It might be something personal? See if he can do something better than the first ET movie? You said he isn't straining for money, so I suppose that would mean he doesn't really care if other people think it sucks.
And, so what if ET 2 is terrible? The first movie was good.

Loads of actors/actresses/directors don't NEED the money but it doesn't stop them making shoddy sequels to mooch of the success of a first.
Legally Blonde 2? Brdiget Jones' Diary 2? ANY Disney Sequel?

Well, if it comes out, I'm not going to see it >.> Why can't they just learn to leave the classics alone
*chases after Speilburg with an imflatable hammer*
