Films that totally blew you away *** SPOILERS***

Wed Jun 28, 2006 5:38 am

I'm looking for films that totally blew you away, in any sense. (parts removed)

Saw- The ending
Signs- The "alien reveal" video
Audition- Dismemberment, ingestion of second-hand puke
Bubba Ho-tep- Seeing Bruce Campbell as "Elvis" for the first time
The Lord of the Rings- CGI

Get the drift?

Yoshi edit: Title changed. No self censoring please. Feel free to change the title to something else, within the rules.

Napoelon Dynamite. Because it was so stupid, it was good. :roflol:

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie- The rock song ending was so out of the blue... Pat in fishnet stalkings just killed me.

The Incredibles- Because I came in with lowered expectations, and the whole story just blew me away.

The Ususal Suspects- I saw the ending before they revealed the twist, but that didn't make it any less of an "Oh WOW!" moment for me.

Edit: Removed self-censoring. Sorry, Mods.

Same, I always thought it would fail but it was amazing.

As for the rest of my choices,

The Constant Gardener -- Didn't think it'd hit me so hard, very emotional movie.

Aeonflux -- Really looked stupid but it turned out to be a really awesome movie.

ZOMG YES. That had to have been my favourite part of the Spongebob movie. :o

The Others... DUH! :o

Serenity - I thought it was just going to be another overhyped sci-fi movie, but it was actually fantastic. It also inspired me to start watching the show :)

LOTR Trilogy: If you weren't blown away by the beauty of it all, you would've been blown away when you watched the extras that showed exactly how much effort went into those movies.

The Sixth Sense: Really, who saw that ending coming?

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Even though I liked it, most of the movie was rather bad. Except their interpretation of Magrathea. That was awesome.

Whee. I did. And everyone was telling me to shut up during the premiere night. :P

Hmm... the only one that comes to mind at the moment is Saw's ending. I'm difficult to surprise, and there really aren't many unpredictable movies out there.

;o Show someone RHPS for the first time. They won't be able to predict anything.

Doom - one set of scenes they actually set up exactly like the game. It was mind boggling that they managed to do it and not totally destroy the effect of the whole movie.

V for Vendetta - some part of this were beautiful, the twist was a little predictable was still good and overall the storyline is an amazing look at politics, freedom, etc etc.

*says this often so you shouldn't be suprised*

Transformers
It started slow, Ironhide complaining about not being allowed to attack, the shuttle being launched and Megatrons chilling words "More than you imagine Optimus Prime"

Soon we are on the shuttle headed for earth, And then BAM The Decepticons have torn their way in, in moments the Aoutbots lay defeated and broken.

Megatron walks to the fore of the shuttle and proclaims his plan in typical bad-guy sense.
Ironhide attempts to stop him, feebly grasping at Megatrons leg.
"noooo"
"Such heroic nonsense"
And at that Ironhide is gone. :|

And for the next... Oh, thirty minutes I see my childhood heroes die.
And then Prime arrives.
My hopes soar, surely victory can be snatched from the jaws of defeat :D
As it happens. No.
Megatron and Prime engage in their final show down, lasting a paltry 3:21.
numerous Underhand tactics later, Prime lays on the ground, broken and defeated, a gaping hole in his chest.
Megatron stands over him.
"I would have waited an eternit for this... Its Over Prime"
Optimus looks up at Megatron, and with his last effort, uppercuts him,
"Never"
knocking him over a cliff-face.

Shocking. even now.

Doom- The First Person Scene.
Event Horizon- The whole idea of it, and the makeup.
Evil Dead- Humour and gore.

V for Vendetta - THE ENDING :( I cried every time (saw it three times)

Crash - Lots of stuff, but especially the final scene--both how it starts snowing and how the circle of prejudice starts all over again when that one person gets rear-ended.

Kill Bill vol. 1 - Both the House of Blue Leaves scene and when Bill asks Sofie Fatale at the very, very end if Beatrix/The Bride knows that her daughter is still alive. :o

Office Space - Blew me away by how FUNNY it is, even though I've never worked in an office before.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin - Ditto Office Space.
