Pans Labryinth?

Thu Feb 01, 2007 5:22 am

Has anyone seen this? I've only seen trailers. It looks good. It is like a faerie tale and horror too. I guess it is like a dark faerie tale. It is rated R, which may be why it isn't playing in my area. It resembles a children's movie, but obviously must have some parts not suitable for children.
I really want to see this, but I guess I'll have to wait for it on DVD, theatres in my area are not playing this. I guess because it resembles a kids movie but it isn't.
If you visit the site you can hear practically the full length of the theme song, which I think sounds haunting and pretty, and I haven't even seen the movie. Just the music alone is making me want to see it.

Oh yeah, on here is a synopsis and a gallery and stuff. I am not looking at it. I don't want to spoil the movie for myself. I just want to go in not knowing what to expect.

But from the trailer I am seeing something like suicide..and also what appears to be torturing of another man. This is starting out a bit like The lion the witch and the wardrobe, in the fact that a child is trying to escape the effects of war and escapes into another land... But I guess in this movie they show it, in all the gorey details of it. What is hinted at in a kid's story, is shown in an adult's story.

This movie is definately NOT for children, it has incredibly graphic violence and is very not happy. If you don't like tragic/gorey movies, do not see this movie.

That being said. I thought it was wonderful. I cringed through a lot of it and hid quite a bit... some of it I couldn't handle (which I won't say, because they're just so shocking!!!) but yeah. Really a beautiful movie. It really is wonderful though... just hmm. Yeah. My feelings are still kinda mixed on it. I loved it, but at the same time... all that gore.

I guessed as much from the trailer, but I still wanted to see it.

I expect Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows could get An R rating, if this did. But we don't know what is in the last book or if they will tone it down to be for kids.

No no...

This was extremely violent. Like... *sighs*

Spoilers down below. (and I do mean spoilers)

There's rather graphic scenes involving a misscarriage, graphic scene involving a man getting his face bashed in with a wine bottle (very graphic), highly graphic scene of a man slowly getting his mouth sliced open.

There's honestly just so much gore... and death... and violence. It's not a pretty/happy movie. Harry Potter doesn't hold anything on this, no matter how bad the deathly Hallows is (and i'll believe no matter what they'll make it PG13, because they need the money from the young audience, and due to public outcry were it not). But yeah. Just... yeah.

I personally liked it, it was very well made, and the graphic scenes weren't that graphic, imo.

I beg to differ.

Some part of it were truly disgusting, like too disgusting for me to watch and I'm a Saw fanatic. I wasn't thrilled with how the ending worked out, but I still think it was worth seeing. I probably won't buy it though. Remember, fairy tales are meant to scare the crap out of children to be good, haha.

I really don't mean to sound snarky/catty, but I liked it alot, and feel it's one of the better movies out there right now. Better than any dumb 'Scary Movie'-esque type movie. Seriously, movies aren't as good as they used to be, but this one is actually good. I didn't mind sitting in a theater watching it.

I heard it was nominated for best foreign film, does that mean it's not in english? I've only seen trailers for it and nobody speaks in the trailers.

Looks really good to me. As long as it's well made and has a great story, I don't mind gore at all.

It's in Spanish. It's very very good, just gorey. Not your usual "feel good fairy tale" type movie.

I just watched a 4 minute clip of it, and I am quite intrigued! it's subtitled, which I can handle, I get too distracted when films are dubbed.

Everyone who's seen it told me it's amazing. A big group of my college buddies and I are driving an hour to go see it tonight.

I'm sooo excited!

Hmm, it looks like it could be very disturbing, but also very cool.

I love fantasy/weird movies, but I don't like gore very much... but I think I might have to just cope with it and see this one. Thanks for the link!

I haven't seen it, but it looks very good. I probably wouldn't spend the money to see it in the theaters, but I'll probably rent it.
