The big screen and the small screen... together at last! Hurrah!

First of, so there be no misunderstandings: I made a new thread because the last Pirates thread is over a year old, and the last Pirates discussion thread is over three years old. If this be not just cause, slap me on the head and send me to the brig.
So, I started this thread because I just bought the Pirates box and wanted to discuss the movies and the open questions left in them somewhat. If you feel you might add to the discussion, please do.
And to kick things off: a question about 'Hoist the colors' / Davy Jones / Calypso / the brethren court
Consider:
'The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her Bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will we'll roam.'
&
'There has not been a king since the first brethren court, and that is not likely to change!'
&
The fact that it was Davy Jones who supposedly told the first brethren court how to imprison Calypso
Might Davy Jones have been the first pirate king? I think it can be firmly established that 'Hoist the Colors' is a song about the binding of Calypso. While it's certain that at this time Jones was already tasked with the captaincy of the Flying Dutchman, he only abandoned his task of ferrying souls after she had 'not waited' for him. Jones probably didn't go 'fishy' overnight either, and it's likely that when he saw what was happening to him, he passed on his title of pirate lord.
Any thoughts?
