Should a lead singer leave their band to become solo?

Sure, if they want to do their own thing.

No, they're complete sell-outs!

I really don't care. That's their business but if they make good music, good for them. If they end up sucking, they should go back to the band. Everyone usually wants to do their own thing sometime... Just a matter of whether or not they will sell or not.

If people are of the impression that making music on your own, away from your band, is selling out, then they really don't know what selling out is.

I think that it's fine for people to want to make music on their own. If the music is good, I'll listen to it. If it's bad, I'll stay away from it.

I don't have a problem with it. And if they're doing fine on their own, then thats great. *shrugs* I love Matchbox 20, but I have no problem with Rob Thomas going solo.

In the case of Gwen Stefani, a big fat 'NAY!'

In the case of Morrisey (although granted, not the same circs), a big fat 'YES!'

Depends if they're any good on their own.

Obviously.

:P

It doesn't really matter to me. If I like their music I'll check out the old band's music or the solo artist. :)

No point in staying in a band if they feel like they could do better on their own/bored with the idea.
I have nothing against them. ^^

I don't really have a problem with it, as I like most of the solo artists mentioned on this thread, though I still like some of their band's music.
