The big screen and the small screen... together at last! Hurrah!

This isn't a band/artist suggestion, just something in general towards Versus.
I want it mandatory that people have to first listen to BOTH artists/bands up for vote. I'm absolutely sick of people going "never heard of x so I'm going with y". This makes it so that a WHOLE LOT of potentially better but not well-known artists lose almost automatically, just because they're not very main-stream. I'm not saying that all popular artists suck, because that's not true, just that you can't have a valid opinion on whether band x is better than band y if that opinion is based solely on the fact that you've never listend to band x's music.
Sorry for that rant, but it's something that reallyreallyreally annoys me.

I agree, it's rather annoying... but you can't force someone to listen to it before they vote. It's impossible.

I wish I could, but yeah, it is impossible. But hey, I can still dream.

I've actually thought about about posting links to their music EVERY single time a new one comes up... in fact, I think we should (if we can find it, and it's legal of course).

But then there'd be situations with for example a band that only about 3 people have heard of and chances are, they're in love with that band - then what?

Um... I don't see how that's a problem if the people in question know of the lesser known band (because they probably know the other one too). Also, this is mostly for the people that just put "Haven't heard of this one, but I've at least heard of the other, so I choose them". It at least keeps the results less lopsided if the lesser known band is actually listened to instead of skipped.
Just my two cents, though.

Well, everyone can have a listen to that band. What's your point? If you love a band, you'll vote for them. If both competitors are mediocre, you listen to their songs (Like I did).
DM should just post a link to their website, or MySpace or whatnot, and I'm sure you'll be able to hear a song of the artist's/band's play.

Ok, I'm going to post a bunch that probably none of you have ever heard of, but they're awesome.
Lissa Schneckenburger (and Halali and Phantom Power, both of which she's in)
Great Bear Trio
Back of the Moon
Matt and Shannon Heaton
Karen Tweed
Liz Carroll
John Doyle(and liz carroll and john doyle together)
Airdance
October Project
J.P. Cormier
Ember
Laura Bullock
Marce
Er, question. About how we're not allowed to suggest bands with only foreign lyrics, what about bands with no lyrics at all? Four of those are purely instrumental.

I second Dixie Chicks, Michael Buble and Imogen Heap.
And I'll add Sufjan Stevens, although someone may have already said him.

That'd be a good idea. Also, if people have iTunes they could just listen to samples via the Music Store (I'm not sure if other music subscription services do this).
And there's always last.fm, which will sometimes have artist songs for you to listen to.

I recommend:
MEAT LOAF
That is all.

Goldfrapp
The Afters
And I strongly, strongly, strongly back Imogen Heap and Frou Frou.

Ooh!
I second Goldfrapp! ^^
And add Kaki King (if I hadn't already.)

But I do. The name of the band is clickable, and will take you to the artist's site.
Loser1921 - I second The Afters. XD *biased*

I know that; perhaps making a link for each single (Leading to the actual song), like,
It'd incline more people to sample each song.
