Movie = Awesome.

Davy Jones & Crew = Best Villians in any movie ever. Looks and plot.

Unfortunately, im still struggling to follow the plot a little. Can somebody help me?
Here's where I have questions. I guess theres a lot but its hard to follow the plot, and id like to know exactly whats going on.

1)What does the leader of the trade company want with the compass, and why?

2)How did Bill Turner go from the bottom of the sea to jone's crew? Obviously he was part of the curse of the gold, so was left down there alive for quite a while, but then what?

3)Whats the plot behind jone's crew? They are all near-to-dead people who jones allows to work for him for 100 years instead of going to a watery hell? This 100 year enslavement is Davy Jones locker? What sailors are allowed this deal with him?

4)What's the story beind the heart... So it's Davy Jones heart, right? Tell me again why its buried, and still beating, and why he carries his key around... (is it so he can go back the chest whenever he wants?)

5)Whats the deal between Jack and Davy jones... why does Jack owe him his soul or 100 other souls, and why does HE want davy jones heart?

6)Why does Will want to destroy the heart? Will that then kill Davy Jones? If so, what would that accomplish?

7)Why does Jack initially go to Tia Dalma, and what relation does he have with her?

8)Why did Norrington lose his job and go from very respectable to... street rat? So let me get this straight... he finds out that the leader of the trade organization wants the compass so he can get the heart, so Norringtons private goal is to get the heart and bring it to him so he can get his job back?

9)What happens to Governor Weatherby Swann?

10) Who is the creepy dark guy who follows Elizabeth around? (Like he's watching her as she pulls norrington out of the mud)... is he with the trade company or something? Why is he so wierd? whats he up to?

11) What is Davy Jones then? Are we supposed to know how turned out how he did, or is just a dark villanous devil of the sea basically? Who has a beast friend monster called Kraken?

12) Elizabeth chains up Jack to the boat so that the rest of the crew can live, because the monster is after Jack and his ship. Why is it ONLY after jack and his ship? Is it because he is the leader, or because of the deal he made with Davy Jones? Or what?

13) So with Jacks... death. Is it like a Lord of the rings moment, where the most beloved and most respected character totally changes the plot by dying.... as he enteres the giant beasts mouth *like Gandalf the grey does as he falls into the big pit with the monster?* like... is it the same situation where we are supposed to assume he is dead, but then also assume he will make a dramatic comeback? Or is it NOT up to him and up to his crew to save him?

14) Where is the crew now going, along with barbosa? Does the witch lady imply that they must be WILLING to sail to the ends of the earth and bascially do whatever it takes to get jack back because its going to be SO hard to do, or do they literally need to sail to the ends of the earth in like... uncharted territory so they need barbosa?

15) What are we supposed to assume about barbosa being alive? The witch lady saved him, and why would she? Or is it all about timing and Jack put the coin in after he gets shot... *even though the bullet wound bleeding would kill him after he was cured form the curse anyway...* but then why would he end up back in the swamp city?

Whoever can answer the most of these correctly gets a prize. :D

Oooh - I could possibly answer most of them.

1 - He wants the compass so that he can control the sea. If he has the compass, he would be able to find Davey Jones' chest and kill him, making him the new captain and therefore "the sea" as Davey Jones puts it.

2- That is left pretty vague in the story, but I'm assuming that Davey Jones' came upon him and they made a deal like everyone else on the ship.

3- I think it depends on what kind of mood DJ is in when he comes upon the wreckage of a ship. You must be dead or dying and willing to join his crew to save yourself. It's sort of cheating yourself out of death and becoming one of the damned. Yes, I believe once you are part of the crew, you are a part of davey jones' locker.

4- Yes, it's his heart. It's buried because he did not want to live with the pain it was giving him after his love left him (? I believe she left him). He keeps the key with him at all times so that no one will get the key and destroy his heart.

5- I'm guessing that Jack had a near death experience thirteen years ago and made a deal with Davey Jones' in order to stay alive. If he got thirteen years of being captain of the Black Pearl, then Davey Jones got his soul. Instead of giving himself over, Jack makes another deal where he can exchange the 100 souls for his own. Jack wants the heart so that he can bargain with Davey Jones in order to keep the Pearl and call the Krakken off of them.

6- Will wants to destroy the heart so that he can rescue his father from his damned life. With the heart destroyed, Davey Jones will therefore be destroyed and the crew will be free to go (as in, I believe they are finally put to rest). With no more Davey Jones, there is no more damned crew and no more controlling of the Krakken (sp?)

7- I think that they had a "relationship" like he has had with those women in Tortuga. That's just my guess, as I don't believe anyone is quite sure of what they were actually, as the movie is very vague on most of the back story. He goes to her because he knows that she will most likely be able to help them.

8- Norrington, I believe, quit his job rather than lost it. He quit it because he let Jack go, and then followed him but wasn't sucessful in capturing him again. He was ashamed because his pride and respectability was gone, so he quit and wallowed in his sorrow with alcohol and the such. Yes, he is doing the dirty deed for Beckett so that he can get his life back.

9- Well, by the looks of it, he gives his title and most of everything else he owns over to Beckett and waits to see what happens to his daughter.

10- He is in close ties with Beckett, I assume, as he is in his office and speaks to Governor Swann. Other than that, he seems to be Beckett's hitman

11- The only explanation of him that they give is that he became the way he was because he was in love and that love dissappeared on him. He was badly wounded because of it, but could not die. I have no clue as to why that happened, but oh well, as long as he makes a good villian in the story, Disney is happy.

12- It is only after Jack and not the ship. It's only attacking the ship because it believes that Jack is on it. The only reason it is going after Jack is, yes, because of the deal between him and Davy Jones. Jack tried to run from his deal and smurf Davey Jones off, so he is getting what he was asking for.

13- I don't believe he actually died at all. For, surely, if he was gone, the sales of the movie would plummit for the third one and nothing much would happen. Sure, he might now be in some form of a Hell at the end of the world, so, yes, his crew must find a way to get to him and figure out a way to rescue him. If Barbossa came back - then Jack will surely come back.

14- Well, if you look at Beckett's office, there is the giant world map that they assume is the full extent of territory at the time. They must sail past that edge of the map and discover what is beyond it in order to save Jack. So they are basically doing both - they are doing whatever they can and are willing to do to save him, along with sailing past that edge of the map to do it.

15- I think it's pretty unclear about that at the moment - it will probably be revealed in the third movie once they begin to talk to Barbossa on their journey. It is quite possible that Tia might have some otherwordly power and could've revived him if he washed up wherever she was. Or she could've known about the whole deal about the Aztec gold and was on that island at the same time the events occured. We shall have to wait and see.

:D That took awhile to type.

Thanks SO much.... i really appreciate it, and understand the movie much more now :D :D :D

If anybody DOES know precisely what the deal was between Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones, that would be nice to know...

Were you watching the movie or just looking at the Exit signs? :P

1. He wanted the compass so he could find the heart, but he got the heart anyway. Thus he can control Jones and thus the Kraken.

2. Since he fell to the bottom of the ocean (with a cannon strapped to his bootlaces) he was immortal but was under the huge preasure. Aparently Davy Jones ship can not only go around underwater but also has submarine capability and thus he ended up with him.

3. Any sailor that davy jones comes across or that he has sent his kraken out to destroy. The ship that Legolas got sent onto had recently been wrecked, and when Davy Jones has nothing more pressing to do he just prowls around after shipwrecks to give the offer.

4. Davy Jones' carved his heart out because of the loss of his one true love. He burried it so that he wouldn't have to see deal with it. This, in turn, made Jones dedicate himself to inflicting as much cruelty and pain to others (even his crew) as possible. Davy Jones is practically invincible as long as his heart is not destroyed. However he obviously can't destroy his own heart.

5. Jack had Davy Jones raise the Black Pearl from the bottom of the ocean in return for a pledge of his soul, after 13 years of being it's captain. Jack was screwed however having only 2 years of captain before his crew mutinied. However he still went around calling himself Captain and thus Jone holds him to the deal. Davy Jones obviously just feels as though he'd rather have the soul he is owed, and thus to replace the soul he is actually owed he demands a massive price. In souls.

6. If Will destroys the heart, everyone held by Davy Jones will return to normal and be freed from their service. The deal davy jones makes is not with dead men but with those close to dying, shipwrecked people, so technically if the heart is destroyed and Davy Jones with it, then they all revert to humanity. Whether they return to normal or whether they go to exactly how they were when they made the deal I don't know.

For example the sailors that accepted the deal on the ship Jack sent Turner onto were alive but injured, they accepted the deal as they would have died sooner or later. So if the deal is broken by Jones death do they suddenly turn to normal (disney esque) or return to being bloodied and near death? In Bill Turners case he would return to being undead.

7. Past lover. Tia Dalma also gave him the compass and thus is a source of usefulness to jack. In addition, Tia Dalma might actually be Jones' former love that he lost (one version of the story being that he lost her due to his love for the sea) as they apparently have identical lockets. Whether Jack or anyone knows this I dunno.

8. Because he A). Helped pirates, and B). Lost his entire ship and crew in a storm. He wants his life back.

9. Can't remember

10. Just an assassin/spy. Very English.

11. Nothing substantial about how exactly he managed to carve his heart out and live has been established.

12. The kraken goes after anyone that Jones sends it after, but more importantly it attacks anyone with the black spot. Somehow even the hat of someone with the black spot with attract it.

13/14/15. Wait until next movie. However like for Transformers, a very early script leaked and naturally wound up on the interwebs.

They're going to the Ends of the Earth. Somewhere that Barbarossa as an undead pirate has been apparently. There'll probably be steaming vents, but according to the script it is literally a point where the ocean just drops off into hell.

According to 3rd movie information they are literally going to puragtory to find Jack.

1)What does the leader of the trade company want with the compass, and why?

Whoever has control of the heart has control of Davy Jones who in turn has control of the sea. I think you can assume that with the heart, Cutler Beckett can further increase his riches or something...but it'll probably be more fully revealed in the next movie now that he has the heart in his possession.

Quote:
2)How did Bill Turner go from the bottom of the sea to jone's crew? Obviously he was part of the curse of the gold, so was left down there alive for quite a while, but then what?

Jones went and picked him up (his ship can go under the water afterall) and then they struck up a bargain together as Bill Turner explained.

Quote:
3)Whats the plot behind jone's crew? They are all near-to-dead people who jones allows to work for him for 100 years instead of going to a watery hell? This 100 year enslavement is Davy Jones locker? What sailors are allowed this deal with him?

I think the idea is sort of based on actual pirate recruitment tactics. Many times when pirates raid a ship, they offer survivors of the ship's crew work on their pirate ship. If they refused, they killed them. It's said that this is how Great Pirate Roberts got his start in the "business" (a little trivia for you there). And this is probably how they fit it into the legend of Davy Jones which I have suspicions that they either completely made up or dug up from some book of esoteric sailor lore.

Quote:
4)What's the story beind the heart... So it's Davy Jones heart, right? Tell me again why its buried, and still beating, and why he carries his key around... (is it so he can go back the chest whenever he wants?)

According to the story Tia Delma tells, Davy Jones had a true love. But then at some point he lost his true love, and it pained him so much, he carved out his heart so that it would pain him no longer, and he put it in a chest and hid it. You can assume all sorts of reasons for the reason why he still carries the key, but I guess the best is that you don't want to end up losing for good something as important as your own heart because you lost the key.

Quote:
5)Whats the deal between Jack and Davy jones... why does Jack owe him his soul or 100 other souls, and why does HE want davy jones heart?

The deal was that Davy Jones would raise the Black Pearl from the depths of the sea so that Jack could captain it for 17 years, and in return Jack would owe Davy 100 years service on his ship. But when he met Davy again, he managed to renegotiate the deal that instead Jack would give him 100 souls. You can assume that Jack wanted the heart to control Davy Jones, but I myself still question why Jack wanted the picture of the key to the chest at the beginning of the movie if he didn't get reminded about the bargain by Bill Turner until afterward...

Quote:
6)Why does Will want to destroy the heart? Will that then kill Davy Jones? If so, what would that accomplish?

Will wants to destroy the heart because that will destroy Davy Jones. He wants to destroy Davy Jones because of the promise he made to his father that he would free him from his enslavement.

Quote:
7)Why does Jack initially go to Tia Dalma, and what relation does he have with her?

He went to Tia Dalma to get information about Davy Jones because she knew that kind of stuff. With that information he hoped to get Davy Jones off his tail and call off his "beastie". The only relation you can assume he had with her is that he had "relations" with her (knowing Jack's way with women and all).

Quote:
8)Why did Norrington lose his job and go from very respectable to... street rat? So let me get this straight... he finds out that the leader of the trade organization wants the compass so he can get the heart, so Norringtons private goal is to get the heart and bring it to him so he can get his job back?

Norrington lost his job because he let Jack go in the first movie (he let him have a day's head start). The reason he wanted the heart was because Cutlass Beckett had offered to give Jack a job working for him if he could get the compass (or the heart, either would be great). Beckett's leverage against Jack was that it was only a matter of time before Jack was caught and hanged. But Norrington got the heart and hence received the job that Jack might have got (or refused really).

Quote:
9)What happens to Governor Weatherby Swann?

Dunno, but it can't be good.

Quote:
10) Who is the creepy dark guy who follows Elizabeth around? (Like he's watching her as she pulls norrington out of the mud)... is he with the trade company or something? Why is he so wierd? whats he up to?

He works for Cutler Beckett. He's a sort of assassin/eyes-and-ears type guy from what I understand. I don't think he has a bigger part than that unless they plan on giving him one in the next movie.

Quote:
11) What is Davy Jones then? Are we supposed to know how turned out how he did, or is just a dark villanous devil of the sea basically? Who has a beast friend monster called Kraken?

He's the devil of the sea *shrug* The reason he's so grumpy is the whole girl and heart thing. Dunno how he got control of the Kraken, but I guess he has special unique powers of the sea or something.

Quote:
12) Elizabeth chains up Jack to the boat so that the rest of the crew can live, because the monster is after Jack and his ship. Why is it ONLY after jack and his ship? Is it because he is the leader, or because of the deal he made with Davy Jones? Or what?

It's only after Jack because Jack is the only one who made the bargain with Davy Jones.

Quote:
13) So with Jacks... death. Is it like a Lord of the rings moment, where the most beloved and most respected character totally changes the plot by dying.... as he enteres the giant beasts mouth *like Gandalf the grey does as he falls into the big pit with the monster?* like... is it the same situation where we are supposed to assume he is dead, but then also assume he will make a dramatic comeback? Or is it NOT up to him and up to his crew to save him?

Oh, he's definitely dead. The next movie is going to be about eveyone going to get Jack back (and wrapping up numerous other plotlines). Perhaps Jack might try to come back himself, perhaps not. But Barbossa didn't come back just to hang around and do a jig, that's for certain. It's difficult to make predictions about it.

Quote:
14) Where is the crew now going, along with barbosa? Does the witch lady imply that they must be WILLING to sail to the ends of the earth and bascially do whatever it takes to get jack back because its going to be SO hard to do, or do they literally need to sail to the ends of the earth in like... uncharted territory so they need barbosa?

Wait till the next movie :D I guess you can say they need Barbossa though because if there's anybody who can lead them to where the dead rest, it's going to be someone who's already been there.

Quote:
15) What are we supposed to assume about barbosa being alive? The witch lady saved him, and why would she? Or is it all about timing and Jack put the coin in after he gets shot... *even though the bullet wound bleeding would kill him after he was cured form the curse anyway...* but then why would he end up back in the swamp city?

Another question that will most likely be answered in the next movie. The hows, the whys, and the now whats.

It was ok, but overall it was pretty disappointing. I saw it the day after it came out in Killarney, Ireland on my trip. I was never a big fan of the first movie, I mean I liked it but was never obsessed with or anything. The ending was just like a teaser for the next movie. :/

I did like the wheel scene though. :P

That's who he is!

I had a nagging feeling that he looked familiar, but I didn't really pursue that train of thought.

It all makes sense now.

I really like that movie. It had me cracking up so badly -- Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow is the best. My favourite section is probably the whole escapade on the island with the natives, though on afterthought it added nothing to the plotline, and there are great big gaping plotholes everywhere -- I really, really enjoyed it!

I love PotC 2 with all of my heart. xD Everything about it. I love the characters, the plot, the story, I was never bored during the movie. It's true, I forgot quite a bit about it already, :P but it still rocks my socks. It's very far up there on my favorite movies list. ^^

The movie was pretty good, not bad, but a decent sequel.

Although, I really do hate cliffhanger endings, this one was alright. I don't know why, but I was happy to see Barbossa come back.

I watched an interview with Johnny Depp on Letterman or something, and he said that he was in the third film and that the filming was to begin in a couple of weeks (which would be about now). I also LOVED the scene at the end with the jail dog after the credits!
