Hidden messages in songs?

Thu Mar 31, 2005 12:05 am

I stumbled across this site on another forum and to tell you the truth, I'm a little freaked out. The site apparently analyzes a variety of mp3's such as "Stairway to Heaven" and "The Pokémon Rap" and reverses them. In songs such "The Pokémon Rap" and "Stairway to Heaven", negative words are sung and in "The Pokémon Rap", they encourage you to smoke marijuana.

The site: http://jeffmilner.com/backmasking.htm

I have a program which reverses songs and I will check all of these songs and see if they are correct. But I believe this person didn't modify the songs in any way. It sounds too much like my program.

Edit:

The following are REAL:

"Hit Me Baby One More Time" - Britney Spears

I'll be adding more as I go along.

I heard this before. It's flipping crazy. There was a recording of tickle me elmo laughing, and they slowed it down and reversed it and it said something about Satan.

That Stair Way To Heaven one is scary........

The Britney Spears one is funny tho.

I've seen all that and I dont really believe it, but it is funny:)

OMG THAT'S SOOOOOOOOO COOL!!!!
Loving the Britiny one it's hilarious!

The Britney one is hilarious! The ones about Satan are creepy though. You could tell that the one about discovering the secret message was intentional though. The others though... *shudder*

The Pokemon one is weird.........

I wonder if that guy just plays every song he can think of backwards, for countless hours into the night, hoping to find some more of those.........

Man, listening to songs backwards creeps me out, I dunno about you.

**agrees**!

I think its more the listeners fault than the musicians.
I mean... They aren't going to waste hours and hours of their life seeing if they can reverse something and make it sound like a song. More like the listeners have no life.

I totally don't hear anything from the Pokemon Rap. I heard the Britney Spears one though... pretty funny.
I stopped there because, like Rissa said, listening to songs backwards really creeps me out. Ick. My skin's crawling.

The Beatles would often put stuff about Paul in their songs. The "Paul is a dead man, miss him..." was intentional.

Thu Mar 31, 2005 2:57 am

Some of those were most likely intentional, others it just seems like people are looking way too into things.
I'd heard about the Queen one several years ago, and some friends and I actually tried it out to see, and that is what it sounds like backwards.
Though some are quite obviously intentional, like the Pink Floyd one, others, the only way it couldn't just be a coincidence is if they decided what they wanted the hidden message to be before they wrote the song, and then listened to what the hidden message sounded like backwards and tried to bend it into lyrics that made sense.

On a related note, enclosed in the booklet of Madonna's GHV2 compilation CD is a rather hilarious introduction the the CD, written by Dan Cadan, a friend of Madonna's husband. In it, he pokes fun at Madonna, society's reactions to Madonna, and each of the 15 songs on the disc. The related part comes when he talks about her 1992 single "Erotica":
What most people failed to realize, was that if you played it backwards at 33rpm, it actually told you to put all your clothes on and never talk to the opposite sex. Ever.

**giggles**

Also, I'm whipping this over to Abbey Road.

Those were a bit strange. Try listening to some of the songs at a faster rate, they sound strange.

My friend Jim is obsessed with the Stairway to heaven one.
I like listening to it forwards :P
It's so much easier to hear the backwards stuff when you have the baclwards lyrics in front of you...'cause you're trying to hear them.

The Yoko Ono one is VERY vague. If you're not trying to hear 'I shot John Lennon' it's just...indecipherable.

Gotta love Pink Floyd :)
