ACL Fest 2005

Sat Jul 02, 2005 3:21 pm

So, is anyone planning on going to the Austin City Limits Music Festival this year? It's a huge music festival that's quickly gained popularity, and this will only be it's third year. It's held in Austin, Texas (where I live).

Click here to see the lineup and other information.

I really want to go since last year my mom and sister went and they said it was awesome. Another reason is that Coldplay is one of the big-name artists in the lineup. Death Cab for Cutie is also going to be there, along with other's like Jason Mraz.

It'll be held Sept. 23-25, which is perfect timing since my birthday is right before then. I'll probably just go one day, since I really just want to see Coldplay. xD

Wow. I want to go.

Coldplay, Oasis, The Arcade Fire, Eisley, Keane, Doves, Franz Ferdinand.. ldakjsdlgkjldsgkhoihwelkgs. Wow. And I'm only a few hours away from Austin. Perhaps I can beg the parents.

EDIT: Whoa, I didn't even have to beg. I told my mom, and she was all for it. She told my dad, and he was excited. So. I'm thinking I'm there. YES.

Holy Crap.

I can't go, of course, it's in Texas and I'm in Georgia and my family is not only financially conservative they are letting-kids-go-to-concerts conservative.

But they bands are amazing.

I'm so jealous.

Seventeen days and counting. I am so freaking excited.

Aw no fair, you guys get to see Coldplay! *hopes for a February-April stop in Vancouver*

Not only that, but there are so many more fantastic acts there that just multiply my jealousy by so much. If I were there, I'd go for Franz Ferdinand, Jason Mraz, Arcade Fire, and maybe the Kathleen Edwards sets.

Mrrr...if only they had these kinda things over here...

The only mildly exciting people in the lineup are The Arcade Fire, Coldplay (if they play their old stuff ;x), and Built To Spill.

Were I in the area...and country...it might be worth a go. I'm very fond of Doves and The Arcade Fire always put on a good live show. Ooh, Wilco as well.
Bloc Party are always worth a go, and Tortoise are quite nice.

Anybody else get to attend?

I was scared I wouldn't as I live in Beaumont, which was basically in the direct line of Hurricane Rita.

However, my parents and I evacuated fairly early and were able to get to Austin Saturday afternoon, stay over night, and attend the last day of the ACLF.

It was amazing. I wrote this ridiculously long Xanga entry about it, but I suppose I could sum everything up with that I saw Ambulance Ltd., Eisley, Doves, The Bravery, The Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, and Coldplay. I got the members of Doves to sign a t-shirt and I got to talk with them for a few minutes so that was cool. Umm.. let's see. I didn't get to see Rilo Kiley or Wilco, unfortunately, so I was sad there. Overall, Doves was my favorite act of the day. They were amazing. The Arcade Fire was by far the most entertaining. Coldplay was a very classy act and probably the most well-rounded and together (as far as having the sound and the stage presence perfected altogether).

If you'd like to read the entire blurb from my Xanga, it's also been posted on my horribly screwed up and in progress website here.

Well done for your pick of Doves.

By all accounts they are indeed lovely blokes- a friend of mine sometimes works near the space they use to rehearse, and sometimes pops in to watch.

And yeah, The Arcade Fire are always a really entertaining live act. :)
