String Instruments

Does anybody like/play strings? I L-O-V-E the cello! I have an orchestra class at my school, so I play the cello, and again, I love it.

I'm another cello player. Of course, I'm not very good at it, but I love the instrument. It's got such a wonderful sound. You wouldn't really know that to hear me play, but occasionally I do get something right. It's such a fun instrument that I've kept it up despite my unnatural lack of talent.

I've been playing off and on for about 6 years. Right now I'm orchestra-less (I'm homeschooled), but one of the private schools is thinking about letting me in theirs.

I'm so jealous. I've wanted to play the violin for as long as I can remember...

I don't play a stringed instrument, I don't play any instrument, actually, although I wish that I did.

My mom told me she played the violin and she HATED it! :( :o

I played the violin for 5 years (got quite good at it too), but had to stop due to lack of time.

My neighbour across the hall in My university dorm when i was there played the Viola - it was cool

I didn't know you quit, Alex. You used to be so into it. But it is a time-consuming instrument, after all.

I never got past "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" when I played violin. That instrument was always so difficult for me that I'm horribly impressed by anyone who can play it well.

I'm supposed to hear about my tryout date for orchestra today. The orchestra teacher there adores me, so I'm not too worried. (I get private lessons from her, and she says it's just a formality.)

I can't wait to get back into orchestra stuff. Orchestra's great--it's amazing to play along with everyone else, and between all of you it creates a song that couldn't be played solo. I've played with this crowd before, and they're loads of fun. They are, however, witnesses to the Incident.

(Orchestra story!) A few years ago, I was playing at a recital in a nursing home. The weather was awful for keeping instruments in tune, and my cello isn't exactly good at staying in tune to begin with. Halfway through my song, which was quite short, my teacher had to stop me to retune. It went back out of tune while I played the rest. And I'm not talking about going slightly flat--it was more like two octaves within ten bars.

Most of the kids from the orchestra I'm joining thought it was cool that I kept playing, but one girl from another orchestra that I'd been talking to earlier made fun of me. An old lady from the nursing home was rather rude about it, too. :( Looking back on it, I'm pretty proud of young!me for the way I handled it. It's been rather hard for me to be embarrassed by anything since. It's not as if 150 people are all staring at me like they were then. :P

Does anyone else have orchestra stories?

I don't play a string...yet...I'm going to be taking a guitar class in the Spring (if that counts).

If I did play an orchestral string, it would be the cello. I love listening to that range. :)

What a cool topic...it's neat to see so many cellists on PPT. I've played the cello since fifth grade (I'm a college senior now). I still play in the university orchestra, although it's mostly music majors, so I tend to feel a bit overwhelmed.

We went on tour to Washington, DC during Spring Break last year to perform a "Concert Drama" for kids. We went to some inner city charter schools, and it was a really amazing experience to see these kids who have so little (we had to drive through a housing project to get to one school) appreciate us so much.

It will be kind of sad next year when I'm busy with law school and not playing my cello, but I'll hopefully pick it back up again and try to play with a community orchestra or something once I settle down and get a job somewhere.

I can play guitar (pretty competently as well). I'm sure that qualifies as a string instrument :P

I'm just not too happy; I've been playing guitar for about 3 years, and I'll still using a plain old Classical Acoustic, with nylon strings. I need to get myself an Electric

I love stringed instruments, although I don't play any myself. I have neither the time nor the capacity for any stringed instruments, among other reasons for not playing. Sigh.

Although my mother used to play the cello. I've never heard her play, though.

Bass guitar. :P Fun stuff, peavey makes good basses. I'm a sucker for the natural wood look.
