I got a 20GB 4th generation (the ones with Click Wheel) full-sized iPod during this great deal that was supposed to be aimed at college kids. Buy a Powerbook, get an iPod for $200 off--therefore the price of an iPod drops from $270 (my mom works in teaching so she gets educational discount) to a mere $70!! I didn't get the Powerbook from this deal--my boyfriend did--but I got to keep the iPod. Which just proves that if you wait for the right time (this sale happened in late July - early August), Apple will go to great lengths to try and provide you with an iPod. Perhaps wait for after Thanksgiving--and most definitely wait until after Black Friday--and see what happens then.
And to think that I was going to spend $269 on an iPod mini! Silly me. It's not to say that I hate the minis, however I dislike their dearth of space. For example, I now have about 5 GB of stuff on my iPod. If I had a mini, I would have to sacrifice a lot of things to fit its limit.
Now how about those COLOR-SCREEN iPods?! Wow. They can store digital photographs on them, you can view them, and then present them to others using a few connections of some sort. But they have color screens! The only problem? 40GB (the smallest size) = $499.
Or the limited-edition U2 iPods? They have a black shell and a red Click Wheel. On the back, engraved in whatever material they use to make the back, are the signatures of the U2 boys. I don't know how much those cost, sorry.
As for the people who hate Apple for unknown reasons, that's too bad for you. Apple is actually a pretty good company, from what I have experienced (OS X, OS 9.2, OS 8, iPod ownership, iTunes for windows). I don't know why people hate them so much. We use them in our photography class for graphic editing and such, and all my classmates are too thick to try and learn a new operating system. They whine, "Ohhh why don't we use Windows XP?" and then sit there like dolts trying to figure out how to get on the internet so they can check their e-mail. Those airheads...(my classmates, not anyone here)
Then again, I've never understood the great Operating System War. Windows this, Mac that, Linux the other...I use both Windows and Mac and like them both. They both have their little flaws, don't get me wrong, but this shouldn't be the kind of thing where it is bitterly divided, Mac fans, Windows fans, Linux fans.
PS: I thought I wouldn't need 4 GB of space, either, to all those prospective iPod owners. How wrong I was! Keep that in mind.
