Inspired by the classical music thread, I'm seeing who's involved in my favorite genre. Never much liked the Bob-Dylan-Pete-Seeger crowd, but Johnny Cash and Joan Baez have voices that exempt them from the group. Actually, Baez's rendition of Dona Dona is the most beautiful folk song I've heard that wasn't in Russian.

But my favorite stuff is by rebellious Irishmen, Welshmen and Scots. This despite no particular animosity towards England. It's just so... historical, and spirited... I hear Glen-Coe was actually written in the '70s, so the art form is not yet dead. Or at least, it wasn't in the '70s.

Most stirring words go to Thomas Moore (with two O's) and Robert Burns.

Yay! I inspired someone! :D

Ok... back on topic. I don't really listen to Folk Music. (actually, I don't really know how to tell different types of music... I just guess...), but when I was young there was this Folkdance club at school... and maybe those were folk songs? I rather liked them, though.

Yeah, that counts, if all the Soviet stuff I listen to does. (If I knew the words, I probably wouldn't any more, but if you've ever heard the Red Army Choir... *sighs dreamily*)
