Serial Experiments Lain

Thu Jul 07, 2005 3:13 pm

I rented this a while ago and I've been meaning to make a topic on it....Anyway, this is probably one of the weirder animes I've seen. It utterly confused my mom, and I just kept watching it because I wanted to find out what happened. It was like someone's odd, surrealistic nightmare world. I cried at the end....So sad....

The music is awesome, though^^

I <3 serial experiments lain. If you liked it, you should see Boogiepop Phantom and Paranoia Agent. They both have a similar feel. :)

Also, you can buy bear hats like hers on eBay and such. <3

As well as the two Jasujo mentioned, theres also Haibane Renmei and Texhnolyze which have a similar feel of 'what?'

Mmmhmm, Haibane Renmei is excellent, but also requires a large amount of deep thought. My husband and I have pieced together an explantion that works for us, and seems to be a common explanation of the series on the 'net too. Also, I believe Haibane Renmei is by the makers of Lain as well, so the art styles are similar, although HR isn't nearly as dark animation-wise as Lain. I've seen the first disk of Lain about 4 times, and somehow I never get any farther. I want to, I just haven't yet. And everytime I decide to try again, I have to rewatch that first dvd...so on and so forth.

I watched the first three discs, but never got the fourth. Evil missing disc from boxed set!

I have the first four dvds, and still by the end of episode 13 I'm still confused. But I'm still watching, I want to know what happens. Its like a drug...kinda.

I just finished watching the series tonight. The last two episodes really made the show in my opinion. I love anime that make me think, but this one tended to go just a bit overboard on the crypticness for my taste. Still, the ending was well done, and made me a bit misty-eyed. And I said it a dozen times to my husband, and I'll say it again now. I adore Arisu!

Arisu is awesome^^ She's so clueless, but she just wants to help Lain.

If you don't at least mist up at the end, there's something really wrong with you.

Playing with your alphabet soup? ^_- 'Tis a good name though. Very interesting sounding, especially when Arisu would say. Yes, I'm a little obsessed with Arisu.

Seriously though, the longer I think about it, the more I like the series. Great, it's going to have to go on the 'buy' list I think. Pretty low on the buy list, but on the list regardless. Still greatly prefer Haibane Renmei though.
