Subbed, dubbed, or original?

Tue Aug 31, 2004 12:05 am

Do you prefer subbed, dubbed, or original anime?

I like the authenticity of the subbed anime, but I think I prefer dubbed. I don't have a lot of free time and when I do I'm usually tired. It's not a good time to read monoloues in small type on thebottom of the tv screen. ;) Also, when I'm reading the subtitles, I find that I miss some of the animation. My girls are too young and dubbed suits them better. They are practically raised on anime. :) I would rather they watch partially changed, dubbed anime now than wait until they are older for the subtitles. If I get anything new, though (that hasn't been released), I go for the subtitles. :)

Someday I hope to learn Japanese and teach the girls so we can watch the originals.

It depends on the show really. Sometimes dubs are just.. awful. However, I prefer watching both. I tend to watch the English dubs and then go back and watch the Japanese subtitled versions. Then my dad and I pick apart all of the differences. It's actually quite fun. ;D

I prefer subs, though I don't mind watching good quality dubs. I like hearing the original voices. Something is lost when a different actor is speaking the lines in a different language.

Subbed. The Japanese language is cool. Also, with dubbed, the voices are weird and some of the things they say don't exactly follow the English subtitles...

Dubbed. (aka Cartoon Network) I don't have access to any subbed anime.

Subbed, it's the only way I watch anime now.

I prefer a good quality dub, or a sub. I know no Japanese, so how could I watch the originals, anyway? I hope to learn it, though.

I love subbed =)

I'll watch both. I honestly have no preference....though sometimes the jokes make more sense in the native language. Otherwise it doesn't matter.

I watched both subbed and dubbed. It really depends on the anime I suppose. Some can be pretty good dubbed. Others can be ruined however and that's where subbed comes in.

I may test myself by watching the RAW, but I'll eventually get confused and watch the sub. I'll watch the dub if I think it's good. ie. Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho.

David Lucas (Steven Jay Blum) and Justin Cook dub their characters very well.

japanese subbed with chinese words is my preference. i can't stand english dubbed anime...

Almost totally and exclusively subbed, American voices are not suited for anime XD

It rends my ears from my head listening to them, and the subs they make are usually worse. The editing is what gets me, a case of 'we need to destroy the show so we can give it to the kiddies in America'.

There are a few exceptions such as when I'm too lazy to hunt down a series or its Japanese voices are too terrible (DBZ).

I'll watch both, since I tend to watch a movie more than once. First I go with the subs, and then dubs.

Jas, if you learn Japanese, make sure to teach me ;)

I watch both subbed and dubbed (depends on what I can get a hold of), although I prefer the subbed more.
