I was *so* excited when I heard this movie was in the theaters. I love watching anime on the big screen. Unfortunately, I checked and there aren't any theaters around here that are playing it. :( Has anyone else caught it? How was it?

You can view the trailer and first eight minutes here:

It looks really awesome. I've seen the first movie. I can't wait to see this one. Unfortunately, it looks like I will have to wait until it is released on dvd.

Btw, does anyone know if it is dubbed or subbed in the theaters? In the first eight minutes from the site above, it is subbed, but I wasn't sure if that was cut from the original footage or from the theater footage.

Dreamworks/Go Fish Productions so far has done sub-only releases (the previous one being Millennium Actress)

I'm trying to drag my friend into seeing it with me (he likes GitS as welll) since it's sowing in my area, so far no luck with him though -- it looks good (although I've heard a few bad comments about it)

I've just read the review listed on the site above and I want to see it even more. Supposedly, even thought the dialogue can drag on in parts, the art is spectacular.

Do you have to see the Stand Alone Complex series first (which is a nightmare finding anywhere) or what?

It's a sequal to the first movie rather (both being by Oshii), so it's best to brush up on that rather than SAC.

It's pretty rare for Anime to be on the big screen in my area. There have been a few showacases but the only major anime releases that I can think of would be the Pokemon and Yu Gi oh movie/s and Spirited Away.

Same here -_- We had to look around forever to find a place showing Spirited Away, though...

I have yet to see Ghost in the Shell, but it looks insanely good. I'll have to check it out^^

I know the GitS2 was on PayPerView on DishNetwork a couple months ago, and DirecTV has it on HDTV PPV, but not the actual PPV.

I didn't like this movie as much as the first. The plot got a bit tedious at times. I enjoyed the first one and love the series, though. I don't know, maybe the proverbs got to me after a while.

Ditto to that. The film looked wonderful, but the story was a bit wishy-washy.
