The one for Ring was horrid. It was giving me vertigo or whatever...

The British covers for Harry Potter are the best - the American are good too, though. I always get the British.

I don't get all the British Harry Potter covers love. The font isn't as endearing, it doesn't show any of the characters, and the phoenix is much too bright for what is supposed to be one of the darker novels of the series. It's not a bad cover, it's just that I feel like I could have seen it somewhere 20 or 30 years ago (if...erm, I was alive back then). The American version is much more modern and stylish.

Competition's fierce.

And, uh...not to nitpick, but it's "epitome."

I think the covers look great. Other conturies look horid.

I don't think so. Compare:

I honestly like the british version better. It would be quite interesting to see all the Harry Potter covers for one version which are sold in different countries.

I think the British version looks better, but I don't think the American one is awful. I think I have the British version of...*muses* Goblet of Fire? I think so. The one with the big dragon.

The American cover that I like the least would probably be Chamber of Secrets.

I think the British covers have somewhat of a sosphisticated look to it, while the American covers apply has a modern and upbeat feel to it. And depending on what yoru personal perference is you may choose either one. Either way the text in both books are the same.

Upbeat?

*raises a eyebrow* So cool colors and pointy semi gothic styles of covers are upbeat?

I like the British covers more. I think they're better done then most others. (And since i'm a Canadian, I get British covers! Yippee!)

A lot of Anne McAffreys dragon rider books... have cornball covers.
Actually she copyrighted her stuff to the point that you couldn't draw dragons in the same style that was on her books. She'd sue you.
Thankfully she's too old to keep up that law and changed it.
Yup.

*waits for Cae*

When compared to the British covers they seem slighty "upbeat". But same with you living in Canada you get the British covers which I find nicier, if you don't count the first book cover which was just...meh to me.

Why? Well that's why. Gives me a headache just thinking about it.

Ewww. Luckily I got a version with a different cover:

As for uglycovers, although not extremely ugly, I find the cover of Spiral (Ring 2) to be quite ugly. The background effect is okay, but the hand coming out from the middle of nowhere realy wrecks it:

Geeesh. But at least that's just a comic, right?

And I guess "to each her own" as far as the Harry Potter cover debate goes, even though I believe the British cover shows a distinct lack of creativity ("So what's the book called? 'Order of the Phoenix'? Hmm...I know! Let's draw a phoenix!").

What Chrome, as opposed to

'hey, it's a Harry Potter book! Let's draw HARRY POTTER!'

Mmm, creative...;)

Touche, Igg. Touche.

Either way, I prefer the color scheme. And...it's not just "Harry Potter," it's Harry-Potter-surrounded-by-the-haunting-doors-of-I-don't-know-what-I-haven't-read-the-book!
