conversion question! (involving .mov or .avi to .swf)

Tue Jun 29, 2004 8:01 pm

hi there! i wasn't sure if this should go in art technical or here, but since it is for my website and involves more website type stuff i opted for this place. hope that's okay. anyway, i made a slideshow type thing in iMovie, and then exported it to both .mov and .avi formats. I want to put it on a comic site I have. The problem is none of my hosts will allow those types of files. It seems I need to convert to .swf format. None of my programs that I currently own will do that, so I was wondering, how on earth would I go about putting my .mov/.avi file on the web? is there a simple way to convert .mov or .avi to .swf? without buying Flash? thank you soooooo incredibly much to anyone who can help! ~Lilac
(ps. the avi file is 10MB and the mov file is 8.2MB if that makes a difference)

Hm. .swf is gernerally just Flash. Each extension has it's own programming. If you want to convert, you can try search on Google.com for a converter.

The converter would basically alter the programming in your file to make it a .swf file. I'm not even sure if such a thing even exists. It won't hurt to try.

Have you ever considered converting to .mpeg or .mpg? It may work.
