What program do you play AVI files in?

Tue Jul 26, 2005 11:43 pm

I've tried Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, WinDVD Player and Quicktime; none are working for this Avi. I think it has menu choices at the beginning, is the problem, and they don't have that capability.

Maybe it's a codec problem?

. avi files require a codec, and a decent media player. WMP 10 would suffice.

Okay, I have downloaded WMP 10. Now... how do I get a 'codec'? *feels like an idiot*

Get DivX player. That is what my .avi files play in.

Yea DivX works fine. I use it too.

i use wmp6.4(love it since its nonbloated with crap and is fast) and if i remember right i can run video files on it,sounds like a codec problem nothing a simple google search couldn't fix :D

I have Windows Media Player 9, and I can run AVIs. It's most likely a codec problem.

download and use videolan http://www.videolan.org/ it comes with most codex's installed and will play avi files.

I would also recommend this player. As well as Windows Media Player Classic.

If it helps, this is what a .avi file is...

.AVI Audio Video Interleave File (IrfanView) (DivX)

Evanescence, Live at Hard Rock Live, is an AVI file (the full thing) and now I know how to play them! Thanks. :D

I use mplayer2.exe for most of my files, because it's nice and quick, but windows media player 9 for others. When an AVI file is giving me trouble, I use DivX (http://www.divx.com).

I never use Real One or any of the other overcommercialized junk programs out there...just because.

...Just cause they're laggy? *Nods*
