Problem with the new MSN Messenger

Mon Oct 31, 2005 9:07 am

After the auto-update from my Messenger client to update to ver 7, I haven't been able to sign in successfully. Whenever I sign in, there's always an error message saying "Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to be closed". There is a 'debug' tab but when I click on it, it disappears, nothing else happens. Anyone else has this problem? If so, how can I solve it? o_O

That happens to me sometimes. I would suggest just re-starting your computer and if that doesn't work, re-install MSN.

Restarting doesn't work, and I only have MSN 7 installer. I can't find and older version, 6 perhaps...

MSN 7 or MSN 7.5? Try installing 7.5 maybe.

MSN Messenger is the single most buggy bit of software I've ever had the misfortune to install on my PC. Hardly a week goes by without it requiring re-installation or 'repair', I have to fight off a slew of 'Internet Explorer Script Errors' every time I start it, it sucks resources dry if more than a couple of windows are open, and every new release just seems to make the problems worse...

If you want to try an earlier version of MSN Messenger and see if that helps, version 6.2 is still available here

Good luck!

Thanks. My brother has MSN 7.5 installed and it doesn't bug his comp. Weird.

I've had 7.0 for a while now and never encountered any problems...one thing I can say, though, is stay away from Messenger Plus! It completely destroyed mine and three of my friends's computers. -shudder-

OMG, yes, down with Messenger Plus - it gives you pop-ups, even if it does let you have voice-recordings that nobody else can hear because they've had sense enough NOT to install Messenger Plus. ;)

Hope everything works out. And if keep getting Internet Explorer script errors then why not switch to Mozilla Firefox for your Default Browser? o_O

You do realise that the normal MSN Messenger does have the voice feature as well?

You mean those who had enough sense to not to install the sponsor that comes with it. ^_^ You can't just click next all the time in the installation.

Messenger Plus is fine.

I've been using it for years.

All you have to do is not install the sponsor option.

I didn't install the sponsor option, and it still wrecked my computer.

*shrugs* Dunno what's up with your download, but it worked fine for me, not a piece of spyware in sight. Or at least Adaware and Spybot S&D haven't picked up anything.

I d/led messenger plus too without the sponsor option and it was horrible ¬_¬ No pop ups or anything but it brought everything to a standstill and this was on a brand new laptop with paranoid me and my army of spybot/adaware/virus scanners etc on the case. A couple of my mates had the same problem *shrug*

I stick to the normal one, the best thing to do if it starts not wanting to start is to uninstall it and do a clean install. It doesn't like being installed over itself sometimes.

I haven't tried using MSN 6.2 until recently due to exams, anyway it still doesn't work. After 6.2 runs, it tells me to download the latest MSN version (7.5) in order to continue.

I've been looking online for the solution. I know several people have the same problem, but none has been given a reply to fix the problem.

This is the signature from the error report:

AppName: msnmsgr.exe AppVer: 7.5.311.0 ModName: winnqduxw2.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000ad64

Is winnqduxw2.dll the problem? If so, where could it be located at? Not in MSN Messenger folder.

Help? o_O

EDIT: Okay, it's fixed now. I searched winnqduxw2.dll in my C Drive, and found it inside another software. I guess the new MSN needs it to run, so I copied the file to MSN folder and it's fixed.
