About MSN Messenger Emoticons

Sun Jan 29, 2006 9:07 am

Okay, this has been bugging me for ages now. I've always wanted to know how people add those large custom emoticons on MSN.

I know the basic procedure for adding emoticons, but they're always resized to a ridiculously small size. The only way for me to get a large emoticon is to copy it off someone else.

So, anybody got any pointers or tips? How do you add large emoticons in MSN?

Thanks in advance :)

I think it has something to do with Flash. Not sure though :S

I'm pretty sure there is a maximum size for MSN Emoticons, and if you go over this size, it not only resizes it down to the maximum size but even lower.

You may want to find out how big the large emoticons you are being sent are and then try to make an emoticon of that size in different file formats.

Then if they stay the right size then you should try making them slightly larger to test the maximum dimensions of various file types.

It could also have something to do with file size, as a completely white, black or grey emoticon will take up hardly any space, as an emoticon of many different colours will take up more.

The max size is 19x19, so MSN resizes the largest size (length or width) down to 19 pixels, I believe.

I think. Don't quote me though.

i know what you mean about the larger icons, i've tried and have never managed to get one other than by stealing it from someone else :(

EDIT: actually, thats not true - i managed to get one that was wider but not taller ( :roflol: to be precise)
