New: Microsoft Portable Computer

Sat Mar 11, 2006 12:20 am

Isn't this the craziest thing ever? Haha. It's coming out in the market next month (my birthday), from the price range of 600 Dollars to 1000 Dollars. Pretty cheap for such a high tech kinda thing. I believe it comes with wireless internet or something like that.

Not a great thing to me though, if your playing games or something, where is the keyboard? lol

Well that pen-thing will probably serve as a keyboard replacement.

But it does look really cool.

... Apple's will be better (if they come out with one, that is, which I think they will)

Anyways, you can either use a keyboard attachment or use the touch-screen keyboard. And I thought I heard somewhere it was going to be aroun $500. That's Microsoft for you. <_<

Why not just sell tablet PCs? They at least have space to write. Looks cool, though.

Tablets compete directly with notebooks (same format, more or less). This is a mix between a PDA and a laptop -- it's smaller.

Technically, Microsoft is only responsible for the OS on this one - the hardware itself is made by the companies licensing the OS (i.e. Samsung and a few others).

Cool, but an additional keyboard would be nice. Looks like a PSP *hint* *hint*. Gah, apple's too busy with their iPods. xD

Actually, I'll have to disagree, with the release of Mac Mini & MacBook Pro (and additional software, such as iLife 6) in recent months, it seems kind of dull-minded to say that Apple is busy making iPods, especially since iPods are only a small part of Apple.

I'm sure they have attachments, like such as ipods and their little covers, stickers, and charging table..I'm sure they will sell add-ons to this computer.

Oh did I mention it is only 3 pounds light?

That's pretty cool. :o I thought they had something like that, though.

you might have been mistaken by the psp.

The psp only plays movies, games, music.

but Microsoft's portable computer is just a computer that provides everything that you have on yours, i believe. Just lighter, and smaller then a laptop. Different from a tab computer.

Tablets come with sensitive screens and other fancy stuff. This is a step down, really.

As for the PSP - it can access wireless networks, subscribe to podcasts (or at least some form of content-through-rss scheme) and a few other unrelated things. Only complaint is that you can't write your own software for it.

The downside is that I don't think you can really tinker with the hardware...

I don't know I think its pretty neat, everything is getting down to "nano" size these days.

...I know what I'll be asking for for my next birthday. I'll be 13, maybe that's a big enough birthday to receive a piece of holiness like this.

Day-um.
