iTunes 7 problem

Sun Dec 24, 2006 4:34 am

About a month ago, I had to send my laptop in to be repaired, so I backed up all of the files I had on it, including about 1000 songs.

Now, I'm trying to get them back into iTunes 7, and it's just not working. There's 30 odd songs I can get in, but whenever I try adding files (or folders), they just won't add. Directly opening the file also doesn't work - the iTunes window will pop up, but it won't add the song to my library, nor will it play the song.

The songs that have been added are in My Documents\My Music, but when I move a file into that folder and try to add it, nothing works.

I'm at a bit of a loss - I've tried to install iTunes 6, which didn't fix it. So any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated ._.

Hm... do the music files still play in other programs? (eg. Windows Media Player or Winamp or something). Or if you could try playing them on someone else's computer, just to check they're still okay.

And are the 30 songs that you can put in particular ones, or is it just limited to that number? :) (if that makes sense...)

This is really odd. They won't play in WMP either.

I had stuff saved in a couple of places:

- In My Music
- in My Music\Secondary Folder

Anything that was just in My Muisc works, but if it was in another folder, it won't play. The error WMP is giving me is this:

The file you are trying to play has an extension that does not match the file format. Playing the file may result in unexpected behaviour.

Do you want the Player to play the file?

And when I click yes, it just won't play (orange/red exclamation point, and skips to the next one).

Gah. If all my music is lost, I'm not going to be happy.

EDIT: Instead of copying from the DVD of files I had, I tried copying it from the other computer to this one over the network. Didn't work. I have absolutely no idea what's happened ._.

try renaming them making sure the file extension is there and correct?

Just tried that Rach, and it didn't work ._.

I may just have to try this program to get the songs off my iPod, if all else fails x.x

yeah i'd go for just getting them back off your ipod - seems the easiest option.
